Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal: What Went Wrong?
Is the sky looking a little less blue today? Does the air no longer smell of dreams and promises? There can only be one reason: the cutest, most perfect couple in all of Hollywood as called it quits. Taylor Swift, 21, and Jake Gyllenhaal, 30, broke up after only two months of coffee dates, photo ops, and general adorableness.
People was the first to report the split, with a source telling the mag: "They're over...It ended last month."
But why couldn’t a couple with such an abundance of sweetness make it work? According to Us Weekly’s source, Gyllenhaal wasn’t a fan of the media scrutiny surrounding their relationship. (Does someone need to brush up on the rules of a “showmance?”)
"Jake reached out to her and started all of this, but now he’s not acting as interested," the insider told Us Weekly. "He said he wasn't feeling it anymore and was uncomfortable with all the attention they got. Jake cares about her, but [the publicity] was a lot for him. He wants to keep his private life private, and that’s hard to do dating Taylor.”
"He also said he could feel the age difference," the source added. "Taylor is really upset. We told her not to move so fast with this but she didn't listen."
On the plus side, the brief fling has surely given Swift enough material for a few new tunes about heartbreak. Also, insiders closed to the former lovebirds told E! News that both Swift and Gyllenhaal are "very happy."
The pair was last seen publicly on Dec. 9 in Los Angeles. According to Us Weekly, they called it quits just before New Year’s Eve – but not before Gyllenhaal reportedly gave Swift a vintage $11,000 US guitar for her 21st birthday, which she will no doubt use to create twangy, done-me-wrong songs for her next chart-topping album. Silver lining!
