Lagu tersebut diilhamkan dari kes serangan terhadap pembaca berita CBS Dan Rather in 1986.  William Tager (pesakit mental) assaulted Dan Rather, sambil mengulangi soalan "kenneth, what's the frequency?!" berkali kali semasa serangan dilakukan.  Menurut William Tager, dia percaya pihak news media was beaming signals into his head and he needed to know the password untuk stop the signals from being sent to his brains.  

Tager later claimed that he had come from a parallel universe some 200 years in the future. He also claimed that because everyone in the future had a double in the past, he had mistaken Rather for his future double, Vice President Kenneth Burroughs, and that he attacked Rather in an attempt to recover the information needed to stop the television signals being sent to his brain and return to his own time.  He is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence for killing NBC stagehand Campbell Montgomery outside the Today show studio in 1994.

The song was written by Nic(voc/guitar) to comfort his family after his father's death.
He is quoted of saying "It was inevitable I would write a songthat dealt with all of that, but it was almost too big a subject for meto handle," Nic says. "Then I got a phone call from my mum sayingeveryone was *****ed so I wrote the song through Dad's eyes, what hewould say to help everyone through. We recorded it in one take, but itwas ****** emotional, very heavy. We couldn't be happier with this album."
