♠ the world's greatest lie ♠

Am currently reading a book by Paulo Coelho - The Alchemist
And I've come across this passage in the book that intrigues me :
Its' a book that says the same thing almost all the other books in the world say," continued the old man. " It describes people's inability to choose their own destinies. And it ends up saying that everyone believes the world's greatest lie."
What's the world's greatest lie?", the boy asked, completely surprised.
"It's this : that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the worlds's greates lie."
**Being a Muslim where we are taught that almost everything that happens is qada and qadar
do you tends to agree with the fact that our lifes is indeed determined by sheer Faith ....or is a healthy dosage of self empowerment is needed to get where we want in life?? |

Setuju, org Islam mesti percaya pada Qada & Qadar
tetapi tidak semestinya hanya berserah saja...
berusahalah sehingga berjaya disamping berdoa...
itu adalah perlu........ |

The above would be the greatest LIE.

What is fate?
Bagi me, I believe in one thing ...
segala apa yang pernah berlaku pada kita brings us to our current "fate" ..
segala options yg kita ambik dan decisions yg kita pernah buat, no matter how small,
segala people yg kita pernah jumpa, no matter how insignificant we think they were,
segala event yg kita pernah lalui, no matter how trivial they may have seemed,
segala apa yg kita pernah rasa, dengar, lihat ..
actually semuanya falls into place into deciding who we are, what we are today ..
and samada consciously or subconsciously,
semua ini juga akan secara tidak langsung mencenderungkan kita untuk membuat pilihan2 lain dalam life kita from now on ..
so, err ...what is fate again?
maybe the closest interpretation of "fate" yg ada dalam my pemikiran is "chances":
chances that we'll meet ppl yg memberi kesan pd the way we think,
chances that we'll experience events in which we discover ourselves,
chances that at the right time, the right place, we have the right frame of mind to actually learn something from the situation ..

even though we must have faith in qada' n qadar, Allah gives us freewill to act ... so still the choice is in our hands ... it just when things don't go the way we want then keep the faith ... |

Even, according to Islamic teaching, if we go deeper, the explaination for qada` and qadar is not that simple. There are many opinions...
Better ask from a Muslim scholar who studies this field specififcally... |

hii dut....
qada dan qadar ketentuan dr Ilahi yg bukan prcuma... Ia mengikat dgn kewarasan akal diiringi doa... krn kasih Tuhan kan bertaut bila hambaNya sering berdoa kpdNya....
utk apa akal kalo semuanya diserahkan kpd takdir....? |

I concur with all the posting here
the reason why I open this thread, being my own personal experience that I've come across with is that ...
ramai sgt org suka sgt menyalahkn takdir bilamana kehidupan mereka tk menjadi, seindah yg disangkakn, Dut pung faham akan apa itu qada dan qadar, ttp bagaimana nk kita influenced org laen, atau dlam ertikata yg laen, how do we motivate certain ppl that thinks, that their whole life has been mapped out for them
and that no matter what they do or not, its written in the sign from the day that they are borned??

I believe that our lives have been mapped. Fate or destiny it is called.
But we can alter it. Like the world map we can now see the 3 gorges dam of China
which is altered by men. I am sure we can re-map our destiny.
Try NLP. |

The idea that our life is already controlled by 'fate' and do not have enough power to change or shape our destiny, I belief stem from a certain ideology that tried to prevent Muslims from working towards greater things.
For instance, almost all of the poorest countries are Muslim countries. Could it perhaps because most of the Muslims were 'brainwashed' to accept poverty as their way of life, as their 'fate'? Hence making them weak and susceptible to other more powerful countries?
Islam encourages Muslims to work hard to achieve greatness and success, in this life and the hereafter. Why else that 5 times a day we were called to 'March towards success'/(Haiya alal falah)? |

It's not that simple, Wei Loon.
Ask a really competent Muslim Scholar. They may be able to explain a bit...
It's truly complicated and most average Malay Muslim don't really understand this stuff. They have surface undestanding, but it really goes way deeper than that.
And I'm not knowledgeable enough to explain this to you. |

I think even if we try to show them... they will not see it if they don't really want to. Why would they want to? Baming everything and sitting on their butt would be more comforting, and feels safer... Change is unsettling. And when something goes wrong I can blame everyone and their grandmother...
Even if we make good of our life they would say that we're just lucky. |

What you said is true, to a certain extent. However, according to Islam, human is the only being that was given 'freewill'. Allah specifically provided 'freewill' to human being so that they can decide for themselves what they want to do and achieve in life.
Allah then will reward it accordingly.
Feel free to ask if you have more questions. |

What excuse? Wei Loon? I don't understand...
If you want to talk or argue about religion, I'm not interested. No issues, I am just not interested to talk about it...
I am just suggesting that, since you seem to want to know more about it. asking a scholar is the best way爐o爂et爐he most true and honest explaination. I know that fate and destiny in Islam is not like the way you understand in your previous post. I have a vague understanding, but not in-depth. So I suggest a爓ay爁or爕ou爐o爂et燽etter爀xplaination,爋f爓hich營燾annot爂ive.
If you're so inclined to talk or learn more about Islam or any other religion, then you can go to religion board. They may be able to offer more interesting discussion... I hope they know what they are talking about...
The reason I don't want to put efort into it is simple, I am not interested to talk about it. I don't want to go search about it, then explain it to you. Beside, my understanding is not that deep. That's why i suggest you ask those who knows more about this. You ask me to talk about something that I am not interested to talk about, of course I'll not talk about it.
If I lke to play pebble, and you ask me to play with rubber band(which I don't like), I will not play rubber band with you. If you force me, then I will tell my mom.
If you really want to know more, you can go ask other people. Most just accept ideas which is told by their parent etc.. without studying if it's really the islamic understanding of the matter...
I sure hope you understand my post...
I used to play in the religion board, but not anymore... That place is too negative. |

World greatest lie is HOPE.. we keep on hoping for the impossible, yet we stumble upon our own failure while trying to reach what we've hoped for. We also fantasized and dreamt of achieving what we lived for, however we still sitting on our own miserable a**
