of course lah open is opposed kepada close....masalahnya sekarang berkaitan grammatical case... why not they use WE OPEN, WE CLOSE without add an ARE...

an honor vs a house
an umbrella vs a university

ini berkaitan ngan penggunaan article. in english 'a/an' merujuk kepada 'satu' tetapi yg mbezakan 'a' dan 'an' ialah pada awalan perkataan yg bakal digunakan.

'a' digunakan pada BUNYI konsonan dan 'an' digunakan pada BUNYI vowel i.e. A,E,I,O,U (BUNYI bukannya EJAAN).

dlm 'honor', BUNYI 'h' adalah disilentkan maka 'honor' tu diBUNYIkan dgn vowel 'a', maka 'an' digunakan.
tp dlm pktaan 'house', BUNYI 'h' adalah visible, maka 'a' digunakan.

pkataan 'umbrella' lak, wlaupun diEJA ngan awalan 'u' tp BUNYInya dh jadi 'a'. maka 'an'  digunakan.
tp dlm EJAAN 'university', awalan 'u' diBUNYIkan sbg 'yu', maka 'a' digunakan.

grammatically, all the sentences seemed right.
i am no english guru but for as long as i've been using english its right for us to say:

WE ARE OPEN
it is the simple  present tense that shows customers that the shop is currently opened.

WE WILL BE OPENED
future tense that tentatively show the date of when the shop will be opened.

actually, i also came across an article that says it depends on the regularity usage of the phrase. sometimes, we tend to use more of what we comfortable with rather than to what is opposed in the  book.

my 10cents....correct me if i'm wrong ;)

now i'm confused... bg tujuan papan tanda ni, bila masa nak kata we are open n bila masa nak kata we are opened?

adakahbezanya  sebab satu melibatkan verb n lagi satu melibatkan adjective?

yep.

we r open = tunjukan kedai tu tgh dibuka

we will be openend = kedai tu akan dibuka pada pukul berapa

we open = not favor to b used pasal ini biasa dikaitkan dgn perbuatan i.e. we open d door etc.

sape2 kalu salah tlg betulkan sama ek.

We are opened, usually followed by the time frame...e.g. We are opened on Mondays to Fridays...

Just something to share

1. In the phrase "we are open everyday ", 'open' is an adjective.

2. In "we are opened everyday", 'open' is a verb.

3. "We open from ...." is also commonly used ... I think 'open' here is a verb.

As far as I know, all the three above are acceptable (I googled actually... . Just type the phrase in inverted commas e.g. "we are open" to see how it is used...)

I was explaining limitedly to answering the thread opener's inquiry-

"slalu aku nampak kat doorstep kedai-kedai ada notice "WE ARE OPEN"...

so my answer was based on discussing that CONTEXT to the hanging or display of the word OPEN at the entrance of the shops...

Thank, guys...
