Quick grammar q......help me out

Hi!!!

ada soalan lagi nih

1) Macam mana nak cakap "Bas tak lalu kat jalan ni"

2) lagi satu....apa maksud "ain't"....does it mean no...but I've encountered with dis phrase several time like "ain't no money" ...what does dat phrase really mean...saya ada duit @ tak dak duit...confuse ma

'ain't' tu macam bahasa pasar american jer... rasanya maksud 'tak ada duit' tapi tak tau lah kot salah.

1) I'd say "This is not a bus route"

2) ain't is the short form for "am not" or "are not"....the meaning can be "is/are not" or  "has/have not".

"Ain't no money" means "I don't have any money".

Memang agak confusing sebab double negative i.e. "ain't no...", tapi in English maksudnya tetap negative.

Contoh: You ain't no Picasso = You're not Picasso
            Ain't no right = It's not right

tulah confuse "ain't" tu...kalu tak silap mcm ayat " I couldn't hardly wait" maksudnya boleh tunggu lagi since it's a -ve bertemu -ve kan????

kalau " I could hardly wait" maksudnya tak leh tunggu lagi kan???

Well, just like they say, "Two Wrongs Do Not Make A Right", literally.

Btw, double negatives are common in Spanish and grammatically correct. ;)

It's all about past vs. present tense

e.g.

Present
"It seems good to me" - judgement made at the time of speaking
"She seems confused nowadays" - expressing a habit

Past
"It seemed to be effective at the time" - the judgement about the effectiveness was made in the past

To some extent, the use of seems/seemed can be subjective I guess, because it also depends on your own personal judgement or perception about something.

...depends on the sentence jugak...kadang2...u dont even need to use "to be"...eg...today seems like a good day...

...tapi..."it is seemed to be" sounds a bit funny...kalau u want to use "seem" as in past tensed...then...drop the "is" and u can also drop the "to be"...eg...it seemed effective at that time.....
