Although we still have until sometime in Q2 of this year before WhatsApp’s voice calling feature is officially introduced to its users, today the app is getting a rather useful update that includes a few changes to privacy settings and the ability to pay for your friend and family members’ subscriptions. As you may already know, WhatsApp is free to download and use for the first 12 months, and after that costs $.99 per year. With the new friend/family pay feature, you can cover the costs of friends and family members and keep your favorite contacts on the same messaging platform as you. In terms of privacy changes, you can now change settings for your profile photo, last seen status, and a few other tweaks. Beyond this, there’s also a new camera shortcut and several bug fixes.
