 PETALING JAYA: A father’s attempt to save his young daughter ended in tragedy when both perished in a morning blaze at their home in Taman Desa Jaya in Kepong, near here. The man, identified as Tan Kien Mun, 43, was believed to be trying to save his daughter Chan Ling, four, when he was trapped in the blazing house during the 5am incident yesterday. Neighbours, who were awoken by a loud noise, first raised the alarm while the family was still fast asleep. At first, it appeared that the whole family managed to leave the house, although it was learnt that Tan ran back in when they realised the girl was not with them. Selayang fire station chief Azrul Khairi said the man’s body was recovered near the door of the living room while the girl was found in one of the bedrooms of the single-storey terrace house. “When we arrived at the scene at 5.07am, the two victims were already trapped in the house,” he said, adding that the fire was eventually put out at about 7am by 32 firemen. “We believe that the fire started in the living room area before spreading to other parts of the house but we are still investigating the cause of the fire,” he said. Azrul added that 80% of the house as well as four cars belonging to the family were also destroyed. Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Ali Ahmad confirmed the incident. -The Star.
