4-Minute 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' Clip

Like the nation he so strappingly represents, Captain America doesn't hesitate to leap headlong into danger, knocking the lights out of anyone unfortunate to stand in his way.

That's just what Cap does in an extended clip from next month's Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Actually, it's a clip and trailer combo, pairing a stretch of action from early in the sequel with a very effective trailer showing off a whole lot of climactic action, following helicarriers engaged in pitched aerial combat as Cap, Falcon, and the Winter Soldier himself zip about skies streaked with quinjet fire.

The actual clip part is a a fine demonstration of the easy chemistry between Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Scarlett Johasson as Black Widow, and Frank Grillo as new addition Crossbones.  Accompanied by some other S.H.I.E.L.D. assets, these three assault a ship of which Batroc the Leaper, played by Georges St. Pierre, has taken command.

Though the action sequence of Cap and Natasha making their way throughout the ship has been truncated and rendered a bit choppy for promotional purposes, it also emphatically answers anyone worried that Community vets Joe and Anthony Russo have the directorial chops to handle two-fisted action.  It's also packed with little grace notes for the characters, like our hero calling Black Widow "Nat," to Crossbones's smirking affection, to Cap's natural leadership.

Sign us up for what appears to be the most straightforward action movie that Marvel Studios has yet created.  That's not a knock, either.  The limitations of Captain America's powers are part of the appeal here.  And it's only in comparison to the Iron Men and Thors of the world that a movie with floating aircraft carriers PEW-PEW-PEWing aplenty is the most grounded one in Marvel's stable.

The blessing and curse of Captain America is that he doesn't have that fancy an ability," Evans himself recently said. "He doesn't live in another world, or turn green. He doesn't have bells and whistles, he doesn't shoot missiles. He punches and kicks."

Damn right he punches and kicks.  He does both so well.

A few weeks back, IAR Managing Editor Jami Philbrick caught the first ten minutes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier at a special Marvel Studios event.  You can read his recap and reaction by following this link.

And just today we showed off a new character poster featuring Sebastian Stan as the villainous Winter Soldier, who complicates Cap's investigation into a shadowy S.H.I.E.L.D. conspiracy that goes deep and could have profound repercussions not just in Washington DC, but throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier arrives in just under a month, hitting standard and 3D IMAX theaters on April 4th.
