Missing Flight MH370 On Board

SEPANG: The passengers of missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 are of 14 different nationalities says Malaysian Airlines group chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya.

The passengers are made up of 153 Chinese nationals, 38 Malaysians, 12 Indonesians, Seven Australians, three French, four Americans, two from Ukraine, New Zealand and Canada respectively and one each from Russia, Taiwan, Italy, Netherlands and Austria.

“This flight was a code share with China Southern Airlines and we are working with authorities who have activated their Search and Rescue team to locate the aircraft,” he said during a press conference on Saturday morning.

Ahmad Jauhari said the captain of the missing flight, Zaharie Ahmad Shah, a Malaysian aged 53 has total flying hours of 18,365 hours and has worked with MAS since 1981.

“He was accompanied by first officer Fariq Ab.Hamid, a Malaysian, is aged 27 who has had 2,763 total flying hours and joined MAS in 2007,” he said.

Earlier on Saturday, Malaysian Airlines confirmed that their flight which was to arrive in Beijing at 6.30am on Saturday morning lost all contact with the Subang Air Traffic Control.

MH370 which operated on the B777-200 aircraft departed from Kuala Lumpur at 12.40 am on the same day but lost contact with the control room at around 2.40am.
