SEPANG, March 4 — A Malaysian bus driver was killed in a freak accident on Sunday (March 2) after he was run over by his own bus. The driver, V. Shanmuganathan, 38, was on his way to the Kuala Lumpur Low-Cost Carrier Terminal to pick up his first batch of passengers for the day and take them to the Genting Highlands when he lost control of the bus at around 6:15am at kilometre 10.9 of the Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Highway. Shanmuganathan was reportedly thrown from the bus after it skidded across the highway and struck a lamp post. The bus kept going and drove over him, crushing him to death. Motorcyclist Che Mohd Rezuan Che Aman, 23, swerved to avoid the falling lamp post and fell from his vehicle. He was struck by a second bus and suffered broken legs. He was sent to Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia for treatment. Kuala Lumpur City Traffic Chief Assistant Commander Rusli Mohd Noor told The Star that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving. The manager of Shanmuganathan’s bus company told The Star that Shanmuganathan was a disciplined driver and had not been involved in an accident in five years.
