In today’s society, you can find microwave ovens in almost every home. While the general idea was once to use these ovens to warm up foods, people now use them to cook their entire meals, and are unaware of the different effects that the microwave is having on the food they cook inside of it. While many people live by the phrase, “you are what you eat”, they do not consider the fact that it’s not only what you eat, but how you prepare the food items that you consume each day. Facts Facts While many people think that using a microwave is convenient and allows them to cook a meal quickly, which can include different vegetables that are known for their healthy nutrients, what many do not realize is that when you cook food in a microwave, it actually rips the molecules inside of the food apart, and robs it of all the good nutrition. Research has shown that while the food is being cooked in a microwave, most of the nutrients are removed from it, if not all of them. Three different studies done on the effects of a microwave on food have all shown the same detrimental effects. So, while you may be thinking you’re getting all the nutrients you need by using a microwave to prepare food quickly, you’re actually eating food that has little to no nutritional value. This results in you wasting money on nutritional food, and also not getting the nutrients that you need to live a healthy life. Additional research on the effects the microwave has on your food has shown that the way that food is cooked inside of the microwave actually causes different toxins to leak out of the food packaging and into the food that is being cooked. Microwaves cook the food inside by heating small water molecules, which eventually turn into steam and heat the food inside. However, the rapid rate at which this heating occurs will cause the molecules inside of the packaging to change, which will allow them to release from the packaging and basically melt into your food. This occurs with many different items that are pre-packaged, such as popcorn, and even items you place inside of a bowl of your own to microwave. When you heat up foods that are high in fat inside of the microwave, it also changes the fats structure, and the food will release something called carcinogens, which are toxic to the human body. ..and Myths Over the years, people have heard that microwaves give off radiation, however, the FDA stated that standards were put into place that made it so the microwaves had a special closing method, and all radiation would be kept inside of the unit, and disappear when the unit was opened by the person using it. However, additional studies have shown that although the amount of radiation has decreased, when using the microwave, you’ll be exposed to two times more radiation that other devices such as the cell phone, while standing in a different room. This means that if you stand in front of the microwave while using it, you will in fact be exposed to radiation from the unit, which is harmful on the body and has been known to cause health problems such as cancer. While it may seem like an easy way to prepare your food, these are just a few of the harmful effects that microwaves are known to have. These effects have been researched and proven to be true, so instead of opting for this method of cooking, remember that you’ll be eating food that is packed full of toxins, and lacking any nutritional value.
