PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has set May 25, Sunday as the polling date for the Bukit Gelugor, Penang (P.051) by-election. Its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Yusof said nomination day was set at May 12 (Monday) while early voting would fall on May 25 (Wednesday). The seat became vacant after its former parliamentarian Karpal Singh died in a tragic accident on April 17. Abdul Aziz said the cost of the by-election was estimated to be at nearly RM2 million. Speaking at a press conference on the announcement this morning, Abdul Aziz said Bukit Gelugor comprised some 82,431 registered voters, 148 of who were early voters while 28 were overseas voters. NST
