The borderless vehicle registration system is expected to be implemented throughout the country beginning May 1, said Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi. He said that under the system, vehicle suppliers could obtain the registration number for the state required without having to go to the state concerned. For example, he said, a vehicle buyer in Melaka wishing to obtain a Johor registration number could apply to do so at the Melaka Road Transport Department (RTD) without any charge. “The system is to cater for the needs of customers as there are road users who are interested in a certain registration number, so, to meet the customers’ requirements the government has facilitated registration in any state,” he told reporters after closing the basic course for enforcement officers (Grade N41) and assistant enforcement officers (Grade N17) at the Road Transport Academy here, today. Asked whether the mySIKAP computerised service could handle the borderless registration system, Ab Aziz said the mySIKAP system was becoming more efficient. He also said the vehicle ownership transfer using the biometric system for individuals had started from April 1 which aimed to prevent the falsification of documents. CBT
