Screenwriting gurus often tell their protégés to write what they know, and it appears as though 'Frozen's' writer, Jennifer Lee, did exactly that when scribing the recent Disney behemoth.

Unfortunately, this doesn't mean that she possesses the magical ability to create ice and snow with her hands - instead it tragically means that she had a rather tumultuous relationship with her elder sister, which she used to inspire the complex conflict between Princesses Elsa and Anna of Arendelle.

The Daily Mail has reported that while growing up in Rhode Island, Jennifer and Anna were insanely close, but as they entered their teenager years hormones intervened and drove them apart.

However, when Jennifer was 20 they suddenly became inseparable again, but only because her college-sweetheart tragically died in a swimming accident.

A source told the Mail, "She lost the person she thought she was going to spend the rest of her life with. It was incredibly hard for her and a real tragedy."

Amy and Jennifer have remained close ever since though, and Jennifer even invited her to the Oscars as her plus one because of her elder sister's role in her life.

Jennifer previously admitted in a podcast that there had been issues between the pair, which she subsequently injected into 'Frozen's' characters.
"I have an older sister," the divorced mother-of-one explained. "And she was a big inspiration for Elsa for me, because I think there was a lot of the shutting out."

"We didn't become close until I was in my twenties," she continued. "And it was almost like one day, and I had gone through something very tragic and lost someone, and it was like she looked at me as a human begin, and adult, and I became real again to her."

In 'Frozen,' Elsa goes into hiding because of her inability to control her powers, and in the process she shuts out her younger sister, Anna, even though the pair were orphaned in their youth. However, the couple ultimately become close again, but only after Elsa's powers are revealed and she goes into hiding in the mountains.

Many of Disney's most infamous efforts have been inspired by more literary pieces. 'The Lion King' is based on 'Hamlet', 'The Jungle Book' on Rudyard Kipling's novel, 'Mary Poppins' on P.L Travers' book series, while 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', 'Beauty and the Beast' and half a dozen others were adapted from fairy tales.

Disney's decision to use the real life trials and tribulations of the Lee family suggests that they are moving into a more modern and grounded cinematic terrain, which is reminiscent of Pixar's work, but still possesses the magical and fantastical movie elements that are rooted in the studio's history. All of which sounds like a thoroughly exciting concoction.
