In a press statement, Malindo Air said the ATR-72-600 twin-engine turboprop aircraft experienced the incident during ascent, at about 7,000 feet (2,133m). "The aircraft fire detection system was activated and immediately, the operating crew carried out the emergency checklist as per the standard operating procedure to contain the situation. "The captain decided to turn back to Subang and the aircraft landed safely in Subang without any further incident and no one was hurt. "All the passengers were later transferred to another flight to Kuala Terengganu," said the press statement. The airline said the cause of the incident was being investigated and that the matter has been reported to the relevant authorities and aircraft manufacturer. Earlier Wednesday, a player from the Terengganu football team posted a picture of the aircraft's burning engine on his Facebook page.
