 SAN FRANCISCO, March 20 — There are days when you just don’t feel like running into anyone you know. Now there is an iOS app that could help you out. Cloak uses geo-location technology to track your friends and acquaintances — so you can avoid them. The concept works using data from Instagram and Foursquare to provide real-time updates. Major networks Facebook and Twitter are not included in the service (Twitter is “too vague”, according to the company), but the makers hope to add more social networks in the future. “Cloak scrapes Instagram and Foursquare to let you know where all your friends, ‘friends’, and non-friends are at all times so you never have to run into that special someone,” claims the app. Cloak is the latest app in the “anti-social network” trend, in which online users are increasingly valuing privacy over publicising their every move. The trend includes apps such as Hell is Other People, which works on a similar principle to Cloak. It has also seen the rise of apps such as Secret, which allow users to send completely anonymous messages and speak freely to one another, and even platforms such as SnapChat, which delete user images after a matter of seconds.
