Betting on a boost: how the Supreme Court’s ruling on sports betting could impa

On Monday, April 14, the Supreme Court reached a long-awaited decision regarding the future of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PAPSA), and further the casino and gaming landscape of the United States, although the dust was far from being cleared in the legal battle over sports betting. The PAPSA, which was enacted to prevent states from creating and enforcing their own rules on sports betting, was ruled unconstitutional by the court as part of Murphy v. NCAA's ruling, a case that began as part of a mission to revitalize New Jersey's casino scene. Atlantic City, a casino hub in New Jersey, has been floundering in recent years, and the state has hoped to revitalize the gaming scene by attracting betters from New York, Philadelphia, and other East Coast cities with the appeal of legal in-person sports gambling. While online sports betting generates billions of dollars and losses each year, there are still major markets for living physical experiences. Nevada has been the only sanctioned state offering comprehensive legal sports betting for more than 25 years, and this single difference resulted in over $4.8 billion being paid to the sports ledger in the state in 2017, proof that having a position for Better to enjoy is still a lucrative proposition. With the abolition of PAPSA, states are now free to follow Nevada's lead, and can introduce state legislation that legalizes and regulates sports gambling within their borders.

Such a decision requires members of the LED display industry to be actively optimistic. As states line up to legalize sports betting, entrepreneurs will try to carve out a portion of this nearly $500 million industry by starting their own casinos across the country or adding them to existing casinos. Each of these sports betting companies will have to make room for themselves with display technology to entertain bettors they want to attract.

For the majority of sports bettors, gambling is a losing proposition. While some investors can benefit enormously from painstaking research, a hypothetical knowledge of gambling trends, and a little luck, most open betting is conducted for fun. Many sports fans spend money on games to get something to root for themselves (or vice versa). Investing some cash in certain outcomes can turn an insignificant off-market ballgame into an exciting event that requires constant monitoring. So for betting companies to appeal to these bettors, they must provide tools to track their bets, namely display technology that will showcase countless games at once, each game bright enough to be seen from anywhere in the room. Casinos in Nevada have long understood that LED display technology plays an invaluable role in their operations, and LED display makers must actively reach out to new bettors that will take off as state legislation progresses. It is not every day that the law changes, creating a vast new potential customer base for LED display manufacturers, so they will have to move quickly to take advantage of this sea change.
