Without circuit breakers, our homes would be overloaded with electricity that could cause fires. Circuit breakers halt the flow of current in case of overloads, short circuits or ground faults. Surplusrecord has an extensive inventory of reconditioned and new surplus circuit breakers. Browse by amp rating, voltage, frame size and model.

When you need to break an overflow of power in your system, a molded circuit breaker is the way to go. They are less expensive than other types of breakers and protect against overloads as well as short circuits in conductors. They are available in a variety of sizes and can handle various current ratings. They have higher interrupt ratings than miniature circuit breakers and are used for industrial and commercial electrical distribution systems. Their current-carrying parts, mechanisms and trip devices are fully contained in a molded case of insulating material to prevent electrical damage. When choosing a molded case industrial circuit breaker, consider the UL classification mark. This indicates that the breaker has been UL evaluated for specific properties, a limited range of hazards or suitability under special conditions. It also includes a catalog number and type designation. The type designation identifies the characteristics of the breaker, including its maximum voltage and current ratings.

Vacuum circuit breakers are more expensive than other types of breaker but they offer superior performance. They are highly effective and require minimal maintenance. They operate quickly and interrupt the current to prevent high over voltages from affecting stable operation of the power grid. They also prevent contact scorching and welding. They contain a vacuum of 10-5 to 10-7 torr, which acts as an arc extinguishing medium. This is much higher than the pressure of air blast or sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) vacuum circuit breakers. The breaker’s moving contacts are separated by a metallic bellows that allows the contacts to move with no friction. A vacuum has a much higher insulating strength than other insulating materials used in circuit breakers. This is because it cannot be ionized, which could provide a path for electricity to pass through it. They also have a much longer operating life and require very little maintenance. After the final arc interruption, the dielectric strength builds up at a rate hundreds of times faster than in other circuit breakers.

Used circuit breakers are great for keeping the electricity in your house from getting too high. They work by detecting when there is too much power flowing through the wiring & breaking it so that no one gets hurt by the surges of energy. However, they can be expensive to replace if you don’t have enough of them in place. It is important to buy new ones that are sealed properly so that they don’t have issues with water, corrosion or dirt in the future. Air circuit breakers use two pairs of contacts to interrupt the current flow – the main pair carries the normal load while the other is for arc quenching. These breakers are mainly used for low voltage applications like residential & commercial settings & protect against overcurrents. They also feature quick breaker operation as they have less arc duration during interruption. They are available in both fixed & drawer type enclosures.
