Senecas' Casino Project Causes Negative Reaction to Catskill

Viewed 18 times3-3-2024 08:41 PM

Earlier this month, when Seneca Nation of Indians made a surprise announcement of its new casino project, it completely surprised many people. Among them, Anthony P. Cellini, supervisor of Thompson Town, New York, where the casino is planned to be built, was no less.

Antony Celini learned about the Seneca casino plan in the same way as most others through the media. Cellini has already negotiated several agreements with two other Indigenous tribes affected by federal off limits last year. He is somewhat unhappy with the Seneca's surprise plan, and doesn't think they should be able to build a casino without consulting him first.

Mr. Selini isn't the only one surprised, as the Mohawks didn't know about the plan either. Mohawk tribal chiefs were once considered leaders of some casino initiative in Catskills until their application was rejected by Interior Secretary Dirk A. Kempson in January. Barbara LaZor, the Mohawk Tribe leader, made a recent statement to wish the Seneca good luck and also described the challenges facing Mohawk tribesmen to obtain yet-to-be-approved Sullivan County casinos. Also in the dark was New York Governor David Patterson, whom he had yet to meet.

According to some Senecaas reports, the new Senecaas casino is actually a joint venture with rotation black gaming, a Michigan-based startup, and has never been discussed in Seneca territory, even in the tribe's gambling arm, Seneca Gaming Corp.  슬롯머신
