"It's been 10 years, we need to win": 23-year pro reflects on spring v

Age has taken a different front seat, but he's still going strong. Seasoned and steady are the weapons of a veteran.

Jeong Kwan-jang won the second round of the Dodram V League playoffs against Heungkuk Life on April 24.

It was a victory with many meanings. First, it was the first spring volleyball victory for head coach Ko Hee-jin after her debut as head coach. It was Chung's first spring volleyball victory in 2561 days since the second round of the playoffs against IBK on March 20, 2017 (a 3-2 set win).

The 'Spring of Daejeon' has been seven years since 2016-2017, but Hansong, 40, hasn't played spring volleyball since the 2013-2014 season when she was with GS Caltex. "I won the championship with (Lee) So-young and (Lee) Suk-ja," she said after the match, remembering exactly 10 years ago.

He made his debut with the Road Corporation in 2002. He was an original member of the V-League, which was launched in 2005.

He was already a veteran when he won the championship. Ten years later, the 23-year-old veteran is still going strong on the court.

Hansong's role was especially important on this day. The main middle blocker Jung Ho-young was unable to play due to injury. Hansong played full-time alongside junior Park Eun-jin.

Kim Yeon-kyung, the "volleyball emperor" of Heungkuk Life, led the team with her fiery ceremonies and roars. Han Song-i constantly communicated with the juniors and encouraged them with affection.

With the veterans by her side, 안전놀이터 Jeong Kwan-jang didn't crumble as easily as in the first set. They overcame a four-game deficit in the second set, 24-19, to win the match.

Coach Ko Hee-jin said, "When a new player comes in, it gives the team a sense of stability. She played calmly despite playing full-time for the first time in a long time. Our team makes a lot of mistakes, but when she makes a connection, everyone is relaxed. She is a player who supports the team from behind the scenes."

On the day of the match, Bu Seung-kwan and Do Gyeom of the group Seventeen, who are known to be big fans of Jung Kwan-jang, came to visit. Hansong held a bouquet of flowers presented by SEVENTEEN in her arms and smiled broadly.

"It's been a long time, so I didn't play as well as I wanted to, and I was worried about my connection because my attack and blocking weren't good. The other players did a good job, so we kept it quiet. I think the last loss spurred our players on, and we were more focused today, and we were like, 'We're going to Incheon.

Hansong literally broke down in tears when the team clinched a direct playoff berth at the end of the regular season. "After the game, my sister was already crying, so we all got swept up in it," Jung Ho-young explained. "Suddenly, I just started crying," said Hansong. They were tears of gratitude for my teammates and regret that I hadn't been able to go to (spring volleyball) before."

This is her first spring volleyball since coming to Jeonggwanjang. Her preparation for this season was especially special. "I dreamed of being a champion from the beginning. Even when there was a crisis, we thought we could win (the championship)," she said, exuding confidence.

Hansong even acted as an interpreter for Kim, who was named the MVP of the game, to explain the team's situation and share the inside scoop as he was uncomfortable with interviews.

Kim is a small outside hitter at 1.73 meters, but her strengths lie in attacking rather than receiving. On the day, she was a force on defense with a 64.7 percent receiving efficiency, but she also played a solid role on offense, scoring nine points to help out her main shooter Mega-Jia.

"I was prepared, but I didn't know if I was going to start, and I found out when I got there," Kim said. However, Han Song-i made the audience laugh by saying, "Everyone knew you were going to be the starter."

He continued, "Someone has to fill the void left by Lee So-young. She's a good offensive and defensive player, but because she's short, it's hard for her to block, so I think that's why she didn't start, but she's got good momentum, good skills, and distribution." "She's a lot more talented than she thinks she is. The second round of the playoffs was her first start of the year and it's amazing that she played as well as she did." Kim said, "I was very nervous and shaky. Thank you for your praise," she smiled.

Jung Kwan-jang will play for a spot in the championship match against Heungkuk Life in the third round of the playoffs on May 26.
