What are the standard procedures for Tudor watch repair and maintenance?

At the beginning of 2019, Tudor announced that from January 1, 2020, the warranty period of all watch models will be extended from the original 2 years to 5 years.TUDOR Black Bay M7941A1A0RU-0003 Closely related to the after-sale warranty is the daily maintenance and repair treatment of the watch. Generally speaking, the brand side hopes that watch owners can send their watches back to the brand official for maintenance and repair, because the masters here have been trained by the brand official, and they have very good advantages on technical indexes, original parts and services. If you are a Tudor watch owner, where would you choose to have your watch serviced?

So, if a Tudor watch is taken back to the brand's official after-sales service center for maintenance and repair, what procedures will it usually go through? Roughly speaking, there will be 5+1 processes.

First of all, the first process is of course to "check and analyze the condition of the watch". Before carrying out the service, the technician will examine the watch in detail, including the case,TUDOR Ranger M79950-0001 the bracelet and the core, as this will determine the subsequent service procedures to be carried out. Based on the results of the analysis, Tudor will initially propose a quotation for the watch owner's information.

The second step of the TUDOR service procedure is the "heart check", which can be broken down into the following details:

Disassembly: Once the owner has confirmed acceptance of the offer and officially requested the brand's warranty, the master will begin disassembling the watch. The sequence of steps includes separating the strap from the case, then opening the case and removing the center. Finally, the case and the center are completely disassembled.

Cleaning and replacement of worn-out components: After disassembling the center, the individual parts inside the heart are ultrasonically cleaned. The master craftsman carefully inspects each individual centerpiece and replaces worn or damaged parts with original TUDOR parts.

Lubrication and reassembly of the movement: the various components of the movement are re-lubricated to reduce friction between the various wheel trains of the movement and to prevent possible wear of the parts. This process should never be skipped as it ensures that the watch continues to run accurately.

Tuning: The balance wheel inside a mechanical watch oscillates 28,800 times per hour (a common oscillation frequency in mechanical watches) and vibrates more than 690,000 times per day. To ensure that the watch continues to run accurately, the service technician adjusts the balance again and performs an electronic test. Next, the watch is fully inspected by the service technician and followed up over the next few days to check that the watch is performing as it did when it left the factory.

The third procedure is not always carried out, but only after the owner has confirmed the need for it, and then TUDOR will carry out a "case and bracelet refurbishment". If the owner feels that his or her watch has suffered some damage and would like it to look closer to its new condition, he or she can ask Tudor for this optional refurbishment. It consists of polishing, buffing and ultrasonic cleaning of the case and bracelet parts to ensure that the case material regains its luster. After the initial cleaning, the case and bracelet are examined more closely and, wherever damage is found, the service technician replaces them with new original TUDOR parts, as appropriate.

The fourth stage of the process is now at the end of the maintenance and overhaul, so the master will begin the "restructuring of the case". After completing the overhaul of the movement and the case, the master will reassemble the case and replace all the gaskets to ensure that the water resistance of the watch can be restored to a more complete state. Once the case has been assembled, the fifth stage of the process is the "water resistance test". This stage tests whether the case has been tested to ensure that it meets the requirements for resistance to underwater high pressure. A vacuum and compression test, as well as a condensation test, are carried out under water to detect whether the tiny amount of water contained in the case meets the waterproofing requirements.

The final stage of the process is of course the general quality control inspection after the assembly of both the core and the case. Although quality checks are carried out simultaneously at each stage of the overhaul process mentioned earlier, at the final stage, the service technician checks the watch's power reserve, timekeeping accuracy and overall appearance one last time in accordance with the production standards, to ensure that the watch meets Tudor's requirements in all aspects before the repair is considered complete.

When the Tudor After-Sales Center hands the watch back to the owner, it usually reminds the owner again to observe the following steps from the time he gets the watch back to the next time he needs to wear it: first, manually wind up the watch, that is to say, loosen the crown or pull out the crown to the upper winding position, turn it clockwise for about 20 times, and then screw the crown back to its original position, so that the watch's water-resistance can be put into play.

Upon completion of the maintenance and repair service, the watch is covered by a two-year warranty, with or without refurbishment of the case and bracelet. It is important to note, however, that the warranty does not cover damage or wear and tear due to accidental or improper use of the watch. There is also the case where the watch has been serviced by a third party not approved by Tudor or replaced with components not manufactured by Tudor during the warranty period, and if these are found to be the case, then the warranty service will also be automatically voided and the cost of any required inspections and repairs will be borne by the owner of the watch.
