Facts Behind Masjid Al-buraq

Masjid-al-Buraq is a small but very holy place for Muslims. It is in the south-west corner of the compound of Masjid-al-Aqsa in Jerusalem. Because people think that's where our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) tied the Buraq (the riding animal upon which he rode during the Night of Ascension).

During the "Night Journey," the Holy Prophet Hazarat Muhammad (SAWW) was taken to Masjid-Al-Aqsa and then led in the direction of the heavens. This is also written in the Holy Quran.

Meaning of Buraq.
Buraq was the name of the animal that helped our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) get from Jerusalem to the heavens during the miracle of the "Night Journey." From different Hadiths, it is clear that Buraq had wings and was white in colour. Also, it wasn't very tall and moved at a speed that was hard to imagine.

So, Masjid-Al-Buraq is right where our Holy Prophet tied Buraq (SAWW). So, that place became known as Masjid-Al-Buraq in the future. In the same way, Buraq Wall is the name of the wall where he was tied.

Architecture of Masjid-al-Buraq.
With 38 steps down, Masjid-al-Buraq is still a small, thin mosque. Its entrance is on the west side of the Masjid al-Aqsa walkway. It's on the left side of people coming from Morocco Gate and opens on Friday mornings and other times. So, if a believer wants to see such a holy mosque, all they have to do is buy a Umrah packages Birmingham that includes services from Ziyarath and then go to the holy city of Jerusalem after doing the Umrah rituals.

Shab-e-Miraj; The Night Journey.
The hadiths and Quran say that the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) met different Prophets on each of the seven levels of heaven. The Holy Prophet (SAWW) also got 50 prayers a day, which he led for the other Prophets on the same night. During the night of Miraj, Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) also talked with Allah Almighty.

The Buraq Wall; Wailing Wall.
The base of the Buraq Wall was made of 45 stone courses. Only 17 of the stone courses were built below ground. The other 28 stone courses were built above ground. An interesting fact about the Buraq wall is that the four simple stone courses above the 17 courses from the Muslim Mamluk Period were built by the Muslim Umayyad.

Muslim beliefs say that the night journey took place on the 26th of Rajab. Because of this, many Muslims in South Asia like to celebrate this important event in Islamic history by doing Ibadah all night long. It is also called "Shab-e-Miraj" or "Miraj night." So, if you are going to travel for Umrah rituals in the next few months, you should also go to Jerusalem for Ziyarath of the holy places, especially Masjid-al-Buraq.
