Tafsir Qurtubi 2:131
2:131 "When his Lord said to him, 'Become a Muslim'
he said, 'I am a Muslim who has submitted
to the Lord of all the worlds"
Islam here entails all its various aspects. In
Arabic the word "Islam" implies submission & obedience to the
one submitted to. Not everyone's Islam entails faith(iman) but everyone's
faith(iman) entails Islam because whoever believes in Allah necessarily
submits to & obeys Allah. Not everyone who submits to Allah
believes in Him. The Qadariyya & Kharijites hold
a contrary view saying that Islam is synonymous with faith(iman) and
that every Muslim is a believer and every believer a Muslim.
Success is by Allah.
