KUALA LUMPUR: A man, who committed robbery and rape just a week after his release from prison, has been jailed 10 years. Sessions Court judge Chan Jit Li also ordered Yusuf Othman, 37, to be whipped three times. The judge meted out the punishment after Yusuf pleaded guilty to three charges. The sentences will take effect from Aug 17 last year, the day Yusuf was arrested. Yusuf admitted to robbing technician Mohd Nazrin Safai, 25, of his Proton Waja, a handphone, a watch and a silver bangle. He said he committed the robbery with three others, who are still at large. Yusuf also pleaded guilty to a second charge of committing gang robbery on a 25-year-old jobless man named Mohd Zaimramzi Mohd Nor and stole his motorcycle and two handphones. He committed these two offences at the PKNS flat in Taman Keramat between Block C and D in Ampang Jaya here at about 11.30pm on June 24 last year. The third charge read that he raped a 22-year-old trader in a shophouse at the Dato’ Keramat market at about 5.10am the following day. The facts tendered in court revealed that at about 11.30pm on June 24, Mohd Zaimramzi was with his girlfriend and his friend Mohd Nazrin when they arrived at the flat in separate vehicles. Upon reaching the flat, they were assaulted by a group of men armed with a parang, stick and an iron rod. They took the victims’ valuables which included several handphones and a wallet. They also went to a bank and forced Mohd Zaimramzi and his friend to withdraw money. Investigations revealed that the woman was raped by the suspect known as “Usup Gemok”.
