SUNGAI PETANI - Cubaan tiga lelaki disyaki penjenayah memecut kenderaan sebaik diarah berhenti oleh polis memakan diri apabila seorang daripada mereka cedera ditembak dekat Taman Keladi di sini kelmarin.
Dalam kejadian pada pukul 11.45 malam itu, seorang remaja berusia 19 tahun terkena tembakan di bahu dan punggung manakala dua lagi rakannya dapat meloloskan diri.
Ketua Polis Daerah Kuala Muda, Asisten Komisioner Khalil Ariffin berkata, sebelum kejadian, sepasukan polis yang sedang melakukan rondaan terserempak dengan kereta Proton Gen 2 tersebut yang dilihat dalam keadaan mencurigakan di Taman Sejati Indah.
"Semakan mendapati kenderaan itu pernah digunakan untuk kegiatan samun dan rompak sebelum ini.

Teen shot in car chase
SUSPECTED ROBBER: 2 others flee after vehicle crashes
SUNGAI PETANI: A suspect believed to be a member of an armed-robbery gang was injured after police were forced to fire at his vehicle which was involved in a high pursuit chase.
The incident took place late Thursday night, near Jalan Lencongan Timur here.
The 18-year-old suspect suffered two gunshot wounds on the shoulder and back in the 11pm incident.
The drama unfolded when a police patrol car on crime prevention rounds in Taman Sejati Indah here spotted three men behaving suspiciously in a Proton Gen2.
Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Khalil Ariffin said the patrol men ordered the driver of the car to stop but he stepped on the accelerator.
A police motorcycle unit joined the pursuit and tailed the car which turned into Jalan Lencongan Timur.
Khalil said the driver tried to ram the police car and motorcycle, forcing police personnel to fire a warning shot.
"The policemen fired another three shots at the car and the driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle and crashed after one of bullets hit its wheel," he said yesterday.
The driver and a passenger, both in their 20s, fled the scene while the teenage suspect was rushed to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital.
Khalil said upon inspection, police found some syabu and two parang in the car.
Initial investigation revealed one of the suspects was wanted in connection with an armed robbery while the car belonged to a workshop customer.
Khalil said the suspects were also linked to an armed robbery case in Taman Keladi here, five hours earlier.
