Cop jailed and fined for corruption

JOHOR BARU, June 7 — A policeman was today sentenced to two years’ jail and fined RM10,000 or three months’ jail by the Sessions Court here today for bribery.
Judge Mohd Nasir Nordin handed down the sentence on Rostam Omar, 45, after finding him guilty of the offence.
However, he allowed a stay of the sentence pending an appeal to the High Court, but ordered the fine to be paid before June 11 and the appeal to be filed within seven days from today.

Rostam, a corporal from the Seri Alam police station, was charged with soliciting a bribe of RM600 from trader Yeow Boon Kee as an inducement for him not to take action against Yeow for selling smuggled cigarettes.
The offence was committed near Pasar Mini Lima Lima Lima at Jalan Jelatang, Taman Cahaya Kota Puteri, Masai here about 10pm on May 12 last year.
In mitigation, lawyer Hanif Hassan, representing Rostam, said his client was now a security guard and had to support a wife and two children, aged 16 and 17. — Bernama

hatta dia makan rasuah walau 10 sen pun aku sangat happy baca berita jenis2 sangap mcm ni dapat di tangkap dan di bicarakan. jng bagi muka bab2 rasuah ni esp. kalau yg sepatutnya membenteras rasuah tapi dia yg no 1 kebulur makan suap!
