5 Students from Three Malaysian Universities Selected for Participation in the Kaspersky Lab Asia Pacific & MEA Cup
Malaysian Scores The Highest Participation in the Region
Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content and threat management solutions is proud to announce that research papers by five students from three Malaysian universities have been selected for the Kaspersky Lab Asia Pacific & MEA Cup 2013, which will be held at National University of Singapore, Republic of Singapore from March 21 to 23, 2013.
Among Asia Pacific and MEA countries, representatives from Malaysian universities have had the distinction of being shortlisted for four consecutive years, since the inaugural event in 2010. This year, five Malaysian students are qualified for the Asia Pacific and MEA Cup – the highest qualifying participations in the region. The universities representing the country this year are University of Malaya, Multimedia University and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
Themed ‘CyberSecurity for the Next Generation', the student conference aims to encourage research into information security across related fields to push the boundaries of knowledge and academic study into application with research papers by undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Asia Pacific, Middle East and the African region vetted by a panel of academicians and Kaspersky Lab analysts. Competition is stiff not just for the attractive prize money of USD1,000, USD750 and USD500 for the top three places but also for the opportunity to gain exposure at the international level.
The shortlisted participants for this region will present papers at National University of Singapore on topics related to cybercrime and cyber security to the panel. Evaluation will be based on the presenters’ performance including innovative value, pratical value and application, social importance and relevance of the research, scientific and methodological level and presentation of research work.
According to Mr. Harry Cheung, Managing Director, APAC, Kaspersky Lab, the brand is looking forward for fresh and innovative cyber security suggestions from younger generation to address the complexity and severity of cyber crimes today.
“As cyber threats escalate the need for a fresh pool of talents to contribute new ideas is a pressing concern. This competition allows Kaspersky Lab to unearth thinkers who can add to the body of knowledge with input from across cultures. Malaysian universities have an excellent track record and we are excited for this year’s representatives to make an impact,” said Mr. Cheung.
The three best papers from Asia-Pacific & MEA Round will be invited to attend the international ‘CyberSecurity for the Next Generation’ conference at Royal Holloway, University of London, United Kingdom in June 2013.
