Deborah Priya Henry (born July 21, 1985) is a Malaysian beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Universe Malaysia 2011, becoming the official representative of her country to the 2011 Miss Universe pageant in São Paulo, Brazil.[3] She also placed in the Top 16 at Miss World 2007.
Early life
Deborah Henry was born in Dublin, Ireland but grew up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.[4] Her father is a Malaysian Indian and she is of Irish descent through her mother.
Henry spent her secondary school years at Sayfol International School. She particularly excelled in basketball and volleyball at school, and won a gold medal in the Kuala Lumpur International Schools athletics meet. She received a "Sportswoman of the Year" trophy from her school for her achievements.
Henry began modelling at the age of 15 and modelled in London three years later for seven months. She appeared in Malaysian rock band Estranged's music video "Itu Kamu".
Henry holds a B. Sc. degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of Queensland, in Brisbane, Australia.[4] Her focus are on human rights advocacy and sustainable development with a long term goal to eradicate poverty.
Miss World 2007
Henry won Miss Malaysia World 2007 and represented her country in Miss World 2007. She is notable for having been selected in the top 16,[5] the highest placement a Malaysian woman has achieved since Lina Teoh in 1998.
Miss Universe Malaysia 2011
Henry, who stands 1.75 m (5 ft 9 in), competed in her country's national beauty pageant Miss Universe Malaysia, held on January 27, 2011 in Kuala Lumpur, where she became the eventual winner of the title, gaining the right to represent her nation in Miss Universe 2011.[6] |

Australia's Miss Universe 2011 candidate, Scherri-Lee Biggs gets her share of intrigue in the most-awaited beauty pageant of the year.

The 21-year old Aussie has been one of the candidates chided for wardrobe mishaps several times during pageant rehearsals and events.
According to a news.com.au report, Biggs has been told that her evening gown made of satin is "offensively see through." Her bikini was also described as "way too sexy."
She has also been ordered to cover up by making her bikini bottoms wider. The pageant organizers wanted to make sure that her skimpy outfit still manages to cover what should necessarily be kept from plain sight as she sashays her way before millions of viewers.
Aside from Biggs, other candidates have been feeling the heat as well.
Miss Colombia, Catalina Robayo, has been given the warning - "Don't forget your underwear" - by the Miss Universe staff. She has been reprimanded for showing up in super mini-skirts without underpants on.
"It's upsetting too many people," she was told.
Too Excited to Sulk
Biggs has been able keep a positive attitude to counter any pageant tension. She exclaims, "I'm super-excited about the final and just having heaps of fun with all the girls at rehearsals."

The Miss Universe has always promoted conservative ideals for its pageant and contestants. But the organisers of this year's pageant have set strict fashion rules, elaborates the news.com.au report. This meant instructing the official swimsuit sponsor to make bikini bottoms larger to meet strict wardrobe requirements.
"I do think it's a bit silly Scherri may have to alter her dress as it covered a lot more than the bikini," said Kooey designer Nikki Silverthorne, who designed Biggs' costume.
Spotlight on Biggs
Scherri-Lee Biggs was crowned Miss Universe Australia early this July, beating 30 other contestants during the pageant held at the Sofitel Hotel in Melbourne.
The beauty with a "million-dollar smile" is a model, Communications student, and an aspiring painter from Perth.
Biggs confessed that she was in a state of shock after hearing her name and receiving the title.
"It hasn't hit, I am absolutely shocked but can't wait to represent Australia," she said.
One moment that must have impressed the judges and the crowd was her remark on child beauty pageants, "children should be children."
Comments on the Australian representative have been all glorious, as published in the Herald Sun.
"Scherri was a stand-out", Frank said.
"She was poised and elegant."
Judges were looking for the "whole Aussie package".
"We want the girl next door, the fit, sexy and happy Aussie," Miss Universe Australia national director Deborah Miller said before the announcement.
"We need someone who will compete in the International final. This year we are touted to win after doing so well in the past couple of years."

Miss Universe 2011 Contestants Caught on Lens Rehearsing for the Pageant (PHOTOS)
Contestants were filmed rehearsing on stage for the Miss Universe competition to be held on Sept. 12.
The contest will be held at the Credicard Hall in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where contestants from 89 countries are vying for the coveted title.
The contestants will be judged on the basis of three rounds – swimsuit, evening gown and the interview, following which Miss Universe 2011 and second and first runner-up will be chosen.

Miss Universe 2011: Stunning Contestants in National Costumes (PHOTOS)
The glamorous contestants of the Miss Universe pageant wowed the crowds this week with a spectacular display of their national costumes.
Each costume is usually chosen by the director of the respective national delegation to represent the cultural essence of a contestant's homeland.
The 2011 Miss Universe contest will host around 5,000 people inside the Credicard hall. It will air on NBC in the United States with a Spanish simulcast on Telemundo.
"I am very pleased to announce our partnership with media conglomerate Grupo Bandeirantes de Comunicacao and the selection of Sao Paulo as the host location for Miss Universe 2011," stated the pageant's owner, Donald Trump. "Brazil is rapidly becoming an economic powerhouse and is a great place to do business. This decade, Brazil is hosting three of the greatest and most-watched worldwide events: the World Cup, the Summer Olympic Games and now, to kick it all off, Miss Universe."
Contestant will be judged in three categories, swimsuit, evening gown and the interview, as they vie for the coveted title.
"Grupo Bandeirantes is delighted that we have reached an agreement with the Miss Universe Organization to host the Miss Universe 2011 pageant in Sao Paulo, Brazil," said the network's president, Joao Carlos Saad.

‘National’ loss for Miss India Universe!

Mumbai: At an international stage, this sure was a bummer. Even as the beauties from all over the world vied for the coveted title of Miss Universe 2011 to be held at Sao Paula in Brazil, our hopeful from India Vasuki Sunkavalli was left red-faced when her national costume failed to be delivered on time for a photocall at the pageant.
With the grand finale of Miss Universe 2011 just a few hours away, there is not a single photograph of Miss India Vasuki Sunkavalli in her national costume. And quite disappointingly, the chance now to see them seems unlikely.
If the Vasuki’s tweets are anything to go by, it seems that her outfit was held up by Brazilian customs authorities for a week. As a result, Vasuki missed out on the September 8 photocall segment, which sees contestants model their national costumes.
A disappointed Vasuki tweeted: "u work so hard for something n u can’t deliver for reasons not in ur control. my national costume was stuck at brazil customs for over a week".
While there`s still no official word on why there was a hold-up, the stunner did manage to shine in the swimsuit round recorded on the same day, showing off her toned figure.
