camtu gak dgn pencapaian dia dlm hidup, ade org setakat dapat gaji n bekerja dah happy .... but for some people, satisfaction must come along with the money n power to make him ultimately happy person...maybe the father is somebody in public?...

Human is always human, they hardly satisfied what they achieved or just be happy with what they have... however regarding feeling happiness - it is something you embrace with an open heart  and fresh mind.. not because the genes you inherit from your parents ..

But then I think I might contradict a bit about my conviction.. because I believe the urge to drink and be an alcoholism is connected with the genes..  now  how could I explain that, eh...    God, I confused myself again

true about happiness.. ko nak happy.. seek for it..  jgn nak harap genes ko pulak  as if kalu dalam genes ko .. ada great grandfudder ko commit suicide dulu.. ko tak akan dapat rasa happiness tu..   and as if kalu great grandmudder ko dulu happy kan main...  ko pulak tak akan ada mental problem..   :re:

interesting discussion on gene...

According to Darwin, natural selection is based on four principles. First, reproduction occurs within a natural environment. Second, the genes of a species, the basic units of life that contain the individual抯 traits, are passed on to offspring. These genes have a degree of random variability; that is, different characteristics are distributed among the members of a species. Third, because of the members of a species possess different characteristics, some members have a better chance of surviving in the natural environment than do others- and of passing their particular genetic traits to the next generation. Fourth, over thousands of generations, those genetic traits that aid survival in the natural environment tend to become common in a species, while those that do not tend to disappear.

Edward Wilson, an insect specialist, claims that human behavior is also the result of natural selection. Human behavior, he said, is no different from the behavior of cats, dogs, rats, bees, or mosquitoes- it has been bred into Homo sapiens through evolutionary principles. He deliberately set out to create a storm of protest, and he succeeded. He claims that religion, competition and cooperation, slavery and genocide, war and peace, envy and altruistic- all can be explained through sociobiology.

Pigs act like pigs because they don抰 have a cerebral cortex, and instincts to control their behaviour. So it is spider, elephants, and so on. But humans possess a self and have abstract thought. They discuss principles that underlie what they do. They decide on rational courses of action. They develop purposes and goals. They consider, reflect and make choices.

This controversy has turned into much more than simply an academic debate among scientists. Homeosexuals, for example, have found its outcome to be of high personal interest. If homosexuality is due to a choice of lifestyle, then those who consider that lifestyle immoral will use this as a basis to exclude homosexuals from full social participation. If however homosexuality is a due to genetic traits, then that reason for social exclusion is removed. Peter Conrad expresses the dominant sociological position when he points out that not all homosexuals have Xq28, the so-called 揼ay gene

It could be true.
But nowadays perhaps the main factor for a person to be happy depends on the way of life.
the surroundings and the way we are being brought up.

tolong replykan utk bro amazed..

research by Dr Alexander Weiss (University of Edinburgh) ni banyak gak dipublish kat internet..
antaranya yg nad jumpa - in english - leh rujuk kat :

Happiness Is In The Genes atau Genes 'play key happiness role'

but read diz - respon & komen daripada Dr Alex Linley (Centre for Applied Positive Psychology, UK)
tentang research by Dr Weiss :

"there were several studies claiming a significant genetic basis for happiness, but it was
wrong for people to assume this was fixed and they couldn't change their happiness level"

so? boleh berubah kalau mahu berubah - Insya'Allah..
kena hapuskan mindset kalau la dalam trait genetic family tu ada kureng2 sikit ke..
cari & usahakan happiness tu sendiri - ia takkan bergolek depan kita camtu je
kena la usaha, kan! chaiyokk!!

Happiness Is in the Genes
Fifty percent of sense of well-being comes from inherited personality traits, researchers say
By Steven Reinberg, HealthDay Reporter

FRIDAY, March 7 (HealthDay News) -- The right genetic mix might lead to a lifetime of happiness, a new British study suggests.

" While it was known that around half the differences in happiness are related to genes, what we found was that those happiness-related genes are genes for personality, namely for being extroverted, emotionally stable and conscientious," said co-researcher Tim Bates, from the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences at the University of Edinburgh.

Because personality is relatively stable, this new research helps solve what was otherwise a real puzzle, namely why people tend to show stable differences in happiness, Bates said.

" It turns out that if we want to understand happiness, we will need to understand personality," Bates said. "An important implication is that personality traits of being outgoing, calm and reliable provide aresource, we called it affective reserve, that drives future happiness," he said.

In the study, Bates' team collected personality and happiness information on 973 twin pairs. The researchers were able to identify evidence for genes tied to certain personality traits and genes that predispose people to happiness.

There searchers found that people who don't worry excessively and are sociable and conscientious tend to be happier, according to the reportin the March issue of Psychological Science.

While happiness has a genetic component, about 50 percent of the difference in happiness between people results from relationships, physical health, and careers, Bates noted.

However, those lucky enough to have the right gene mix appear to have an extra supply of happiness that they can use when times are tough, the researchers reported.

" If people want to raise their own levels of well-being, our best advice is that they practice the kinds of behaviors that characterize calm, conscientious, extroverts," Bates said.

" Try and be active and social, even if with just a few people. Practice the things you find emotionally challenging, maybe even keeping a diary to help you keep a sense of reality, and allow you to reflect on which strategies work, and which do not. Then set yourself small achievable goals, and work at them. Count your blessings -- that's reflecting on what works in your life -- keep a sense of humility and work for those things you really want," he said.

One expert thinks the study contributes to the understanding of happiness, because it shows that happiness and personality share some of the same genes.

" The results of this study are consistent with previous research on the genetic roots of happiness, which has shown that approximately 50 percent of the variance in individual differences in happiness is determined by genes," said Sonja Lyubomirsky, a professor of psychology at the University of California, Riverside.

The unique contribution of this study is the finding that happiness appears to have the same genetic roots as personality -- both share genes, Lyubomirsky said. "This is intriguing, as we previously really didn't know what the genetic component of happiness really represented," she said.

It would be depressing to attrbute all these to natural predisposition determined by genes.

Go beyond the body, beyod the gene.

Heck, change the genome it doesn't matter.

Yup, we found that out already - insecurities...

I would say the cost of happiness- the free-for-all one would be
another person's smile...which would cost a-dear to that person...

Choose to be happy

Feeling anxious, stressed or sad? You have the option of wallowing in self-pity or picking yourself up and dusting off the blues. Here are some simple ways to make yourself feel better right now:

Choose to be happy!
Realise that happiness does not come from someone or something else. The real source of happiness is from WITHIN you. Stop whining, complaining and seeing the negative side of each situation. Revise your thinking, outlook and attitude. Remind yourself often by saying: I CHOOSE to be happy!

Count your blessings
Write down something you抮e grateful for every time you feel bad. If you can, keep a 慻ratitude journal

I always believe that only you can create your own happiness. Even if you think someone else can, they can't.
