THE true picture of the proceedings at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on March 5, which was reported in a New Straits Times article the following day titled "Judge takes tardy defence counsel to task", was not given.
It was reported that "Agitated High Court judge Datuk Mohamed Apandi Ali tore into the defence counsel..."
It is understood that the article did not give a true picture of the proceedings.
It was said that the High Court judge had merely reminded the counsel, S. Ranee, that the case was scheduled for a decision and had questioned why counsel was late for the proceedings.
The judge also questioned her why the written submissions were not filed as agreed upon earlier but counsel could not provide the court with a satisfactory answer as she did not know the status of the case and had apologised to the court.
The New Straits Times is satisfied that what was reported gave an untrue portrayal of the judge as a fierce and emotional person.
The NST regrets and apologises if the article had tarnished the image of the judge and the judiciary.
