Salam

Yesterday evening, went to a pharmacy in SS15 and explained to a very friendly guy over there about my doter. I was asking for a supplement for her and he recommended Nootropil although no guarantee it will work. He did explain that most adults stroke patients are prescribed with this (either pill or liquid). Some students are taking it for memory, i think. The youngest buyer he ever had would be for 4-5 years old (the parents buy la kan)...But 1 yr old? So i went online and found this--> http://www.tiscali.co.uk/lifestyle/healthfitness/health_advice/netdoctor/archive/100001864.html .
Is it really not recommended for children under <16 years old? One of my doc frens oso say try look for other alternatives. It is still a long way till my doter's next appointment with the paeds but i'm thinking to see one in private hosp/clinic asap. The pharmacist oso mentioned to check my my paeds first. The pharmacist had mentioned that this Nootropil will be used for repairs of dead brain cells, maybe not all, but a few would be good enough.

BTW, i don't know how to explain in medical term but the scenario is she was "lemas" due to insufficient oxygen in her brain during labor process (vacuum). Later, i had a c-sect but by that time, she was already having mild spasm. She was put in the NICU for 2 week. 1st, she was under oxygen support + medication (to reduce spasm, infection in her lungs). She was 50?% expected to be in vegetative state in later years.  2 nd week, she's off the oxygen as she could breath by herself but was given the 3rd type of spasm medication as she has rejected the 1st & 2nd type. Fortunately, the 3rd type worked for her.
After discharge, she was given a clean bill and no medications were necessary except appointment for paeds + physiotheraphy. Surprisingly, even the therapist don't know what to do with her since he exclaimed she was still so young to undergo under theraphy at that moment.
The paeds also mentioned that she might have dead brain cells but it can only be detected later. true??? She has undergone hearing+ear test, and alhamdulillah, she passed with flying color.

FYI, she's 1 yr old (25th Feb to be exact) but she couldn't crawls + sit on her own. I tried put her in the walker and she loves it and zoom to everywhere she could. i've noticed that sometime she could stand on her own w/o hanging on to the walker for a few seconds.

so, i'm seriously lost of what to do except the appointments. I was waiting till she's 1yr old to give her supplement in which the paeds don't even recommend any. I'm still massagoing her everyday woth the reommended massage for stillborn children.

Any recommendation for supplements? vitamins? Is there any paeds out there that is actually good with this kinda cases?

your help is very2 appreciated.

no, jgn bagi nootropil if your kid is below 16yo.

kalau kids yang dah severely damaged brain ke, or orang tua yang ada alzheimer ke, ok lah. not to young kids.

anyways, pls bring her to a few pediatricians for different opinions & get her diagnosed, that is the best. if the ped(s) recommend(s) nootropil, then you know it is safe for her to take.

bukan apa.. saya ni 'allergic' sikit kalau dgr nootropil ni. sebab anak saya dulu lambat cakap. mula2 memang kerap juga tanya ped, tapi ped kata normal lah some kids memang lambat.
however, kita as parents risau, apatah lagi dah masuk 2yo++ masih babytalk.
jadi bawak pergi jumpa seorang child psychiatrist ni. dia yang prescribed nootropil.
i didn't have internet access then, jadi tak boleh nak research dulu, & bg dia makan dulu ubat tu.

later on abt a week after, check on the net, kanak2 bawah 16tahun tak digalakkan makan!!

the best thing was, the doc told us kalau makan nootropil ni, dalam few days memang akan nampak sikit perubahan dah pada kanak2 tu, & biasanya dalam masa sebulan, kanak2 tu akan berubah drp yang tak pandai bercakap, kepada kanak2 yang tak henti2 cakap (i was impressed masa dgr tu).

my child didn't show any +ve response pun towards nootropil despite having taken it for 10days.

the year after (i regret this until now, because i found this out too late) baru dapat tau, anak saya bukan nya ada masalah bercakap sebab slow learner or what.. tapi dia ada masalah pernafasan & pendengaran, yg somehow obstructed percakapan dia.

so we went for surgeries to correct the problems, alhamdulillah memang kali ni betul diagnosis, & dia dah bercakap macam peers dia dah.

so, pejalanlangit, pls take her to a few peds, mintak opinions dulu. kalau ped cakap bg nootropil, then only ikut. else, jgn.

kalau nak utk improve IQ, my pharmacist friend pernah recommend abelld'or chlorella no 1.

i don't know pun kat mana nak find this, katanya kat mana2 vitacare farmasi ada, tapi tak pernah nampak pun. maybe i overlooked.

lagi satu, saya bagi kat anak efalex syrup (i think ada omega 3 + 6 kot... tak ingat if ada omega 9 as well.. boottle dah buang sebab baru habis). rm70 per bottle.
