Problems with headphones you don't get vocals in the middle. The soundstage and depth are no match compares with speakers and also lacking in bass extension.
Sound production of headphones is kind of unnatural, it comes from up instead of from front.

The best thing about headphones is that you can get almost the same sound quality compared to more expensive hifi system.

You can buy a 3k headphone which can have the same quality as 30k hifi system.

But you need to get proper source and headphone amp as well.

But the sound still comes from the top. The vocal is not centered.
No matter how expensive the headphone is, it still can't give you the bass extension of a 12" woofer of a speaker.

A 'real' hifi sound must sound like a real performance playing in front of you.
The singer must in the center. That is called soundstage. Headphone's vocal comes from left and right and the music is from the top, not infront of you. Hence, audiophilists spent tons of money on speakers and cables.

In Hifi, satisfaction is priority. Most of the audiophilists are nuts. They are so fussy about what their system can reproduce. If they are not satisfied with certain area of the sound they would change this and that.

BTW we are off topic.

IMHO, we're not that off topic. That's your zen, right? So I think it's quite ok. Technologies have bring advancement in every filed. Even spirituality and mental development.

Well, most people just buy ayam brand headphone from RM5 to RM100...
Of course this type of headphone sucks...

So get a headphone that cost about 3k, a headphone amp about 2k and a good audio source about 3k then you're set.

3D soundstage is available but cannot compete with a good speaker setup which may cost 10k upward. besides, you need to have a proper room. Different room carries different sonic signature which means that you'll not be hearing the recording as it was recorded. And it's not pertable. I'd say, go for both. Expensive hobbies are good...

Why audio system is related to my zen. I have zen micro, it's portable. The funny thing is there is no song at all in my audio player. Most are audio books and some brainwave entrainment recording.

So, it's my zen.

ps: What about the wife effect? Don't your wife has a problem with your hi-fi setup? It could be noisy in a normal room. Or you have a sound proof room?

My hifi room is too small for serious auditioning, plus I have too many rubbish in my hifi room. I shelved my hifi room temporarily. My wife supports my hobby as long as it is not womanizing.

I'm cleaning my room. Going to move out.Whoa! I really have too much stuff.

Mostly books and stuff that I don't know where it's coming from. Also too many gifts...

Should throw away some, should give away some.

To think that I have been living simply...
