PILIH MANA R-73 ARCHER, ATAU RAFAEL PYTHON-4

Saat ini hanya terdapat 2 produk rudal udara ke udara jarak dekat yang paling diperhitungkan. Yaitu Vympel R-73 Archer buatan Russia, dan Rafael Python-4 buatan Israel. Sedangkan AIM-9X masih belum bisa menandingi kemampuan kedua rudal beken tersebut.

Tulisan bold dalam warna merah adalah parameter penting untuk sebuah AAM. Disini R-73 memiliki kelebihan pada jarak tempuh, kemampuan maneuver, sistim penuntun serta offbore sight.
Semakin jauh jarak tempuh, semakin leluasa rudal menyergap lawan, dan semakin aman dari sergapan rudal lawan.
Semakin tinggi kemampuan maneuver, semakin besar pula kemampuan untuk menyergap lawan.
Sedangkan sudut offbore sight yang besar, akan memberikan 揳ngle of view

EO seeker can acquire low heat signature aircrafts such as UAVs, helos, CMs.
EO seeker, seeing a sharp image of a locked target, can home in on critical parts, not hottest parts.
Onboard computer is >100x that of the Python 4 in terms of computing power.
-> High ECCM capability

The backwards-facing radar of a Flanker (do not exist yet) will have no chance against a Raptor. Perhaps an IRST will, but not such a weak radar. That is, if the truck-RCS Flanker somehow survives the BVR engagement.

Quoting F-15 pilots during the recent Red Flag, they claimed they acquired the Raptor visually, but instruments just refused to lock on to it. These claims may not have merit, but they are no different from the marketing sheets above.

Yeah ... good articles posted.  Realistically, Israeli products are a big "no-no".

Other IR missiles besides those mentioned above (we aren't limited to the R-73 only):

1. Iris-T
2. Mica IR
3. ASRAAM
4. PL-9
5. AAM-3

our Migs and SUs can only fire AAMs of a certain make only.  and at present scenario, i don't think our SUs will be firing even the Iris-T.  they just can't.

similarly with our hornets.  they simply cannot fire R73.

They could've been wired for the Mica IR for a true passive BVR capability.

R-73 has aspect angle of 45 grad and not 90. Range 30 km and not 40 km.

Python 5 can be  launched at 360 grad
