Shinky got rubella injection while i was in standard 6. Ingat lagi masa ceramah sebelum inject tu, nurse tu kata, rubella ni cuma sekali seumur hidup dan sesiapa yang ingin mengandung dikehendakki  ...

Shinky, that's what I thought also. Pasal rubella ni kan virus german measles. Org kata, setiap org sekali dalam seumur hidup akan kena. Lepas kena selalunya dah immune. Kalau  inject rubella, sekali lepas tuh, tak perlu le nak kena measles ni utk immune... hmmm... kena tanya doktor2 kita kat sini nih.:hmm:

Kintan,

RUBELLA (GERMAN MEASLES)

Also known as rubella, German measles is a relatively mild infection normally, but in pregnancy it can have very serious implications, as it can cause birth defects ranging from deafness to encephalitis (inflammation of the brain)  and heart defects.  Fortunaltely, most woman are immune to the disease, either from a vaccination or from having had it as a child.

Ideally, if you are not immune, you should be vaccinated against rubella before getting pregnant and then wait three months before trying to conceive.  If you received the vaccine before being aware you were pregnant, the chances that it will harm the baby are very low.  A detailed ultrasound may be carried out at 18 weeks to check your baby's progress.

SYMPTOMS

* rash first appearing on the face and spreading to other parts of body
* fever
* swollen glands

TREATMENT

If you contract rubella druing pregnancy, the risk to your baby depends on when you caught it.  If it was in the first month, there's a one in two chance the baby will be affected. By the third month, the risk drops to one in ten.  Unfortunately, nothing can be done during the pregnancy to protect your baby.  Your doctor will explain your options and what tests are available.

However kintan, dont worry so much, just follow your doctor advices and procedures okay...keep smiling ok

oh yeah, here u can see the pic of rubella :

What Risks does Rubella Pose for the Fetus?

About 25 percent of babies whose mothers contract rubella during the first trimester of pregnancy are born with one or more birth defects which, together, are referred to as congenital rubella syndrome. These birth defects include eye defects (resulting in vision loss or blindness), hearing loss, heart defects, mental retardation and, less frequently, cerebral palsy.

Many children with congenital rubella syndrome are slow in learning to walk and to do simple tasks, though some eventually catch up and do well.

The infection frequently causes miscarriage and stillbirth. The risk of congenital rubella syndrome drops to around one percent, after maternal infection in the early weeks of the second trimester, and there is rarely any risk of birth defects when maternal rubella occurs after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Some infected babies have health problems that aren't lasting. They may be born with low birthweight (less than 5.5 pounds), or have feeding problems, diarrhea, pneumonia, meningitis (inflammation around the brain) or anemia. Red-purple spots may show up on their faces and bodies because of temporary blood abnormalities that can result in a tendency to bleed easily. The liver and spleen may be enlarged.

Some infected babies appear normal at birth and during infancy. However, all babies whose mothers had rubella during pregnancy should be monitored carefully because problems with vision, hearing, learning and behavior may first become noticeable during childhood. Children with congenital rubella syndrome also are at increased risk of diabetes, which may develop during childhood or adulthood.

Saya pun tak pernah amik pelalian Rubella, sebab masa sekolah dulu time Dr nak datang inject...ada masalah kesihatan sikit. So, Dr yang tgh treat me at that time advised suruh on hold dulu. Bila dah besar nih, selalu gak survey rega2 untuk Rubella vaccination kat klinik2. Tapi asik lupa nak injek, sampai lah kahwin & terus bunting pelamin. Insya Allah takde jadi pape pun. Yang penting tawakal lam hati & doakan yang terbaik buat si ibu & kandungan.

Hmm..saya dulu pun ingat Rubella sekali je seumur hidup..
then masa buat blood test time pregnant bebaru ni (sekarang almost 5 weeks after deliver) my gynea kata my Rubella level cukup2 je..actually ada reading dia..lupa dah saya punya berapa..lepas tu dia kata dah abis pantang nanti pegi amik Rubella lagi sekali..for next pregnancy kan..dia suh amik cepat incase ter'accident' lak...
Pendapat saya..setakat injek je better buatla.. jangan amik risiko..takut panjang lak citer lain...kalau ok, kira alhamdulillah lah..
Satu lagi dia pesan..sebelum pregnant..better pergi wat check up dulu..check kita punya health condition...
takut ada cyst ke dlm rahim..high blood pressure ke...
sebab kalau ada masalah kesihatan..better kita rawat dulu masalah tu baru pregnant balik...(sorry off topic sikit)..
