Okay, good news, Lost Boys fans! The hideous Lost Boys reboot we were fearing is now getting REWORKED, praise Jesus. Not only that, CW has announced that in addition to the pilot being remade, the cast of the show which was previously announced is no longer going to be a part of the show.
The actors will be recast and let's hope this time around they actually find someone who will fit the iconic characters from the 1987 American horror comedy movie -- the best vampire movie ever made.
To suit the current audience and cater to as many people as possible, the pilot gender-swapped the famous Frog brothers and replaced them with 'Frog sisters' which got a lot of heat from the fans. Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke helmed the first effort, which was written by Heather Mitchell. However, it is still not confirmed whether Hardwicke will direct the new pilot.
The cast included the likes of Sarah Hay from Flesh and Bone, Cheyenne Haynes from Camping, and Haley Tju from Bella and the Bulldogs have joined the star cast of the show.
Haynes and Tju will play the Frog Sisters, Liza, and Cassie, while Hay will play Mollie, turned into a vampire by David. Former Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey, Kiele Sanchez from Kingdom, Medalion Rahimi of Still Star Crossed and Dakota Shapiro of Valley of the Bloom but now, they have been scratched off.
According to Deadline, Medalion Rahimi and Dakota Shapiro are the only ones CW is keeping, as of now and the pilot is being reworked on as the channel didn't approve of it.
"After 25 years away from home, Lucy Emerson (who is at the end of her financial rope) returns home to the small California beach town of Santa Carla, to live with her father Frank and teach at the local high school," read the official synopsis of the show, which may or may not change now.
"But Lucy either doesn't know or doesn't share the town's big secret with her two sons, Michael and Sam. Santa Carla has a nest of vampires secreted inside the city limits, and they are getting hungrier by the day," it adds.
Starring Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Kiefer Sutherland, Jami Gertz, Corey Feldman, Dianne Wiest, Edward Herrmann, Alex Winter, Jamison Newlander, and Barnard Hughes, the first Lost Boys movie is still the most loved movie of the franchise.

Rob Thomas served as a writer for the pilot and admitted that they've done things differently from the original. "I felt like the vampires in a new television version were not simply the bad guys. In The Lost Boys movie, the vampires are bad. I didn’t think I would structure each season, so there’s a group of bad guys who are vampires, each year, that we’re trying to defeat. Part of it was wanting to have vampires who are not as goody-goody as Liv is in [iZombie]. I think that group of vampires can actually exist within the framework of the show I’m presenting The CW with," he revealed. (IMDB)
CW also released a logline for the show which read, "Welcome to sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat…and a secret underworld of vampires. After the sudden death of their father, two brothers move to Santa Carla with their mother, who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.” Do you think they'll be able to make this reboot watchable? Or, should they scrap the idea altogether?
