Police hunt for object used to sexually assault teenGEORGE TOWN, June 13 — Police said they will search for the object used by attackers to penetrate the anus of an 18-year-old whom they allegedly beat up until he was brain dead.
Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said the doctors confirmed there were tears and bleeding from the boy’s anus.
“It was believed to be caused by inserting a blunt object, either a stick or bottle or something else; it’s not sodomy,” he told reporters at a press conference at the Northeast district police headquarters today.
ACP Anuar said the forensics team will have to search the field at Jalan Kaki Bukit in Bukit Gelugor for the object that was used by the suspects against the boy.
In the early hours of Saturday, T. Nhaveen was assaulted by two other teenagers, believed to be his schoolmates, after an altercation outside a burger stall in Taman Tun Sardon, Gelugor.
Nhaveen and his friend, T. Previin, 19, were assaulted with crash helmets before the suspects called for backup.
Previin managed to escape, but Nhaveen was abducted and brought to the field in Jalan Kaki Bukit where he was allegedly further assaulted by five teenagers.
Nhaveen was later sent to the hospital unconscious by the brother of one of the suspects.
Police have since arrested five suspects and Anuar said all five have admitted to assaulting Nhaveen, but denied inserting objects into his anus.
The five, aged between 16 and 18 years, have been remanded till today and had their remand extended.
Three have been remanded another three days while two others, who are still students, have been remanded for another day.
Anuar said the three have completed Form Five and are waiting for results, while the students are currently in Form Five.
Anuar said there were burns on Nhaveen’s back believed to be caused by cigarettes.
Currently, Nhaveen is still in a coma in the intensive care unit in Penang Hospital.
“We have recorded statements from five doctors and also from Previin and the man who sent Nhaveen to the hospital,” he said.
He said Previin, who was also injured, is now back in the hospital to seek further treatment as he was hit on the head in the incident.
When asked if the five suspects are linked to any triads or local gangs, Anuar said they did not find any links so far.
He said the suspects and the victims knew each other and were school friends.
“We believe Nhaveen was bullied in school by them and when he saw them at the burger stall, they started insulting each other with the two suspects calling him ‘pondan’ and insulting him over his moustache,” he said.
Police are investigating the case for rioting under Section 148 of the Penal Code.
“We will also be investigating the case under Section 377CA of the Penal Code since there are signs of objects being inserted into his anus,” he said.
The section criminalises sexual connection by object, whereby an object is inserted into the vagina or anus of another person without consent, imposing an imprisonment term of between five and 30 years and whipping upon conviction.
