Pupils, teachers turn old jeans into bags in recycling project

MIRI: SK Senadin is among the schools here that are actively and continuously supporting any recycling campaign and those aimed at conserving the environment. Recently, the pupils and teachers there embarked on a recycling/charity project run under the school’s ‘Caring Programme For Pupils’.

Headed by one of the teachers Hemran Kadar, they took the initiative to turned old, used denim clothing to make bags which in turn, would be donated to the underprivileged pupils. Some of the bags would also be given as souvenirs to the visitors of the school.

Former chairman of SK Senadin parent-teacher association (PTA) Henry Jugah was all thumbs-up for the project, adding that he was very proud of what the pupils and their teachers had accomplished.

“This is a very creative undertaking, in which they promote recycling and at the same time, such endeavour will also benefit the underprivileged children. I believe that the school could generate extra income should they proceed with selling the bags too,” he said.

Henry also said based on the creativity and viability of this project, the school would be prepared to take part in the ‘Friends of Environment’s School Awards’ organised by Shell this year.- Borneo Post
