Manchester United bust-up will see Anderson quit Old Trafford
Manchester United midfielder Anderson has been told he can quit Old Trafford after a furious bust-up with Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Brazilian star left Fergie fuming after reacting badly to his failure to make the starting line-up for the Community Shield defeat by Chelsea.
The Scot was so angry he later confronted Anderson over his actions and was stunned by the 21-year-old’s refusal to back down.
Anderson insisted he was good enough to be in the team and was frustrated at being overlooked, with rookie Darron Gibson taking his place in the squad.
And with the Brazilian international claiming he would prefer to quit rather than sit on the sidelines, Ferguson is willing to grant him his wish.
Anderson’s flare-up has seen him barely feature this season. He played 59 minutes stuck out on the left wing in the defeat at Burnley and hardly made an impact.
He didn’t even make the bench for the 5-0 win over Wigan, with Gibson being handed the job of shoring up the centre of midfield when Paul Scholes tired.
The row is a major blow to Ferguson who hoped the former Porto star would mature into a key player this season.
But having seen his close pal Cristiano Ronaldo leave for Real Madrid in the summer, Anderson could soon be following him out of the Old Trafford door.
United paid nearly £18m for Anderson in May 2007 after Ferguson’s scouts told him the midfielder was one of the best prospects around.
He fired one of the shoot-out penalties in the 2008 Champions League final win over Chelsea after coming on as a sub, and started the defeat by Barcelona in last season’s competition, but he now faces an uncertain future. |

Manchester United get a double disciplinary let-off from the Football Association
Nemanja Vidic and Manchester United have had a double disciplinary let-off from the FA.
While referee Howard Webb missed Vidic’s clash with Wigan’s Hugo Rodallega during Saturday’s 5-0 victory at the DW Stadium, it was picked up by the television cameras, along with the striker’s angry reaction.
Although the furious Rodallega falsely accused Vidic of elbowing him, the pictures appeared to show the Serb back-handing the Wigan man in his face for a potential red card offence.
But while Webb watched the incident again on video after advising FA disciplinary chiefs that he had not seen the incident, he reported back that, with the pictures not totally distinct, he could not say that it would have been an automatic red card offence.
That clears Vidic, while United have also escaped any action for their apparent surrounding of referee Chris Foy in the aftermath of Chelsea’s second goal in the Community Shield two weeks ago.
Wayne Rooney was among the players who appeared and pre-season guidelines from the FA suggested Wembley beaks would step in to clamp down on player misbehaviour even if the match officials insisted they had not felt intimidated.
Despite the promise that “clubs can now be charged for instances where three or more players surround a referee in a 'confrontational manner’, Foy’s insistence that he did not feel he was under threat means that no action will be brought against United. |

Manchester United To Offer Tottenham Hotspur Carrick Plus Cash For Modric - Report
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly readying a bid for Tottenham Hotspur's technically skilled midfielder Luca Modric, according to Metro, who further indicate that Michael Carrick will be added to the £10 million deal in order to sweeten the transfer pot.
The title holders have a contemporary history of admiring certain Spurs players, with both Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov having found their way to Old Trafford after lighting up White Hart Lane.
Carrick, a West Ham United academy product, has won three successive Premier League crowns under Ferguson, and also owns a Champions League winners medal.
Considering Spurs boss Harry Redknapp's recent confession that he is not averse to continuing the recruitment drive that has seen a number of former Lilywhite representatives return to north London, the audacious player-plus-cash swap is not too far-fetched. However, the Cockney coach is unlikely to do business on the this deal due to the high regard he has of Modric.
Carrick recently missed a penalty at Turf Moor during United's shock 1-0 loss to Burnley. |

VIDIC: I'M RED AND PROUD
NEMANJA VIDIC has pledged his immediate future to Manchester United.
The big Serbian centre-back played his first match of the season on Saturday as United thrashed Wigan 5-0.
Then Vidic rubbished talk that he wanted to quit Old Trafford.
He said: “The first thing to say is that I have personally never said anything about Barcelona or Real Madrid or AC Milan or any club.
“It is other people speaking about it. I never speak about my future, so I don’t really know why someone else does.”
Vidic responded to remarks attributed to his adviser Paolo Fabbri last week, who allegedly told a Catalan radio station the player would be happy to join Barcelona.
Fabbri later denied saying any such thing – but the reports from Spain raised doubts about Vidic’s commitment to United’s cause.
Vidic, 27, who joined United from Spartak Moscow in a £7m deal in 2006, said: “I showed at Wigan on the pitch how happy I am at this club.
“Anyone who is a United fan or a player would only have to see how I played to know how committed I am to United.”
Vidic, who is contracted until 2012, added: “I’m here and I’m committed. I’ll show that with how I play in matches, but I will never speak about my future and I will never talk about moving to other clubs.”
Rumours of unrest in the Vidic household began last season with reports that Vidic’s wife Ana was unsettled in Manchester.
Vidic denied this when he said: “It’s not my true that my wife is not happy. I don’t know how that rumour came out.”
The big defender, United’s Player of the Year last season, missed all the pre-season matches because of ankle and calf injuries and was delighted with his comeback.
“I am happy to be back playing and I am happy because of the result,” Vidic said. “We got three points from a hard away game. It was what we needed after being beaten at Burnley.
“We realised how badly we played at Burnley, but I’m very proud of how we did at Wigan.”
Vidic claimed the five-goal second-half blitz proved that United can prosper without Cristiano Ronaldo.
“We’ve lost one of the best players in the world and you want to have him in your team. Of course you miss hi, but you saw at Wigan what great players we have, players who can score goals.”
