Tottenham And Liverpool Transfer Target Confirms Bid Interest From England, Spain And Italy
The president of Brazilian club Internacional has admitted his star striker Leandro Damiao could be sold this summer to a big European side, according to Italian website Calciomercato.it.
Serie A giants Juventus are the leaders in the race for the 23 year-old forward’s signature, but Giovanni Luigi says they are far from the only team in the running.
“It is not only from Juventus that we have received contact,” said the Internacional president.
“Other Italian, Spanish and English clubs [have also confirmed interest].”
It is thought that Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are the Premier League sides most strongly linked with moves for Damiao, with each team requiring reinforcements to their front line for next season.
Liverpool have notoriously had troubles in front of goal this season, and despite their impressive chance creation rate they rarely convert them into goals.
Indeed, prior to yesterday’s Steven Gerrard inspired Merseyside derby victory, a shocking statistic was revealed.
Based only on results in 2012, Liverpool would be in the relegation zone, and their drop away from the UEFA Champions League qualifying places could perhaps have been avoided with a top class finisher at their disposal.
Tottenham Hotspur have largely depended on Emmanuel Adebayor this season, and he is of course only on loan from title hopefuls Manchester City.
As the goals have dried up for Adebayor, so has Spurs’ form dropped off, and they now only sit one point ahead of local rivals Arsenal.
Momentum is certainly with the Gunners, and unless the White Hart Lane strengthen in the summer they may struggle to consolidate their place in the top four with Chelsea also expected to invest heavily.
