Basically, United do not want to lose Tevez. Fergie would love to keep him, and he could still possibly do so. However, the only thing stopping him is the 30mil pounds required to make the loan permanent. This is not an amount of money we can spend without making sure it's worth it. Also, it would make any other purchase more unlikely, as we do not have an endless bank account. it is not that we don't want to keep him, however it may not be all that practical, especially if Fergie wants to purchase new talent.
Can I also stress that Berbatov has nothing to do with the situation. Sir Alex will not give up on him after 1 season, get over it if you don't like it. The issue is whether we can keep Tevez, not whether we need to sell Berbatov.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been told to prepare for a blast from Sir Alex Ferguson's hairdryer after his petulant strop. Striker Andy Cole witnessed Ferguson's fury during his seven years at Manchester United - and knows the boss will not tolerate dissent. He reckons Ronaldo could cop it from Ferguson for sulking so badly when he was substituted during the derby win over Manchester City, despite the United boss claiming he had "no problem" with the World Player of the Year. "It will be interesting to see what the manager makes of it," said Cole. "The old hairdryer could be out. We can speculate how the manager is going to deal with it, but he always deals with things like this in his own way." Ronaldo simmered with rage in the dugout for the last half-hour of the game before driving off from Old Trafford in his Bentley within 15 minutes of the final whistle.
