Still, South Korea will need to do a whole lot more if it wants to convince RMN chief Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar that Malaysia really needs such a huge ship.
Aziz told the New Straits Times later that the ship was futuristic and highly capable and, in terms of cost, would be "a whopper" -- something not very practical in the current economic climate.

There is nothing wrong being futuristic and the cost will not be a whopper if we can negotiate and develop a simple and not so sophisticated model. About berthing facility I do not see a real problems if American Aircraft Carriers can berth in Malaysia before... We cannot have leaders with mental block and not futuristic in this era anymore.... |

agaknya dia dah tahu dah kalau push dokdo lagi 10-20 tahun baru dpt....tapi kalau push yg kurang canggih sikit bole lah dpt awal sikit kot... tahu je la m'sia ni...chopper yg rega 1 billion pun sampai sekarang tak dpt2 lagi.. inikan pulak beberapa billion lemon... belum masuk 'accessories' lagi tu... me think he's trying to be realistic...kan navy yg paling smart, planning wise... |

Bukan ditolak mungkin bro. maksud dia bisa saja ada kapal yang lebih penting untuk di beli, misal nya LST. LST itu punya keunggulan dibanding LPD dan LHD, misalnya dia bisa mendrop muatan langsung di pinggir pantai, cost operasinya pun lebih murah |

Which MPSS? Monday, October 12th, 2009 KUALALUMPUR: As mentioned by Simon, I am posting this, so every one whowants to talk about the replacement for the Sri Inderapura and perhapsthe two other LPD in RMN, KD Mahawangsa and KD Inderasakti, can havetheir say. I will open another one if the comments get merrier.
First of all, can we afford the South Korean landing helicopterplatform, the Dokdo-class, MAF favourite choice for the MPSS or perhapsthe politicians choice, the French-made Mistral-class? With helicoptersand landing ships, we will probably need to pay RM3 billion for a Dokdoclass ship or RM3.5 billion for the Mistral. The annual running costswill get even the best connected crony envious…..
Perhaps we should go for the Indonesian-LPD built by the Koreans forUSD19.9 million or around RM70 million per ship. With helicopters andlanding ships, we probably be spending RM200 million tops. So we canget five LPDs instead of one Dokdo or Mistral.
The Endurance-class LST is also a proven design with four in servicewith RSN and another set to join the RTN. The Thais bought it forUS$182 million (RM697 million) so we can get two for the cost oneDokdo.
We can also get a Chinese LPD probably for the same price as theEndurance class LST. The one offered to us back in 2007 the Type 071reportedly cost some US$150 million plus. There are other LPDs ofcourse, like the Rotterdam/Galicia class LPDs, Mewerdecommercial-derived designs and HDW designed ships but these ships couldalso cost around USD300 million each.
Choices, choices. My personal choice? A modified, smaller version ofthe Dokdo costing not more than RM200 million per ship so we can getmore helicopters on board plus a good C4I system so the ship can becomea flagship as the main requirement stated for the MPSS by the armedforces. With helicopters and landing ships, it will cost RM500 millionper ship and we can get two of these vessels instead of one Dokdo orMistral.

Sy pernah membaca news, indon has built a LPD Banjarmasin Class bigger than korean build Makassar class (for 5 helicopter) and it costs only USD 30 million.
They also have rancangan to build LPD Banda Aceh Class (bigger than Banjarmasin Class).
Only If...... we want to buy from them (and of course if they dont have any objection to sell to us) |
