Geovanni tells Chelsea: Prepare to lose
Hull City forward Geovanni has warned Chelsea to prepare for defeat on Wednesday and also claimed only a "massive" offer could prise him away from the Tigers.
The Brazilian has been one of the stars of Hull's stunning start to the season, netting four goals to lift the club to third in the Premier League.
Chelsea provide Hull's next opposition at the KC Stadium tomorrow and Geovanni, rejuvenated after being released by Manchester City, is confident of doing more damage.
The 28-year-old told setantasports.com: "Hull's bright start to the season is not about luck but rather about hard work.
"Big clubs should be wary of us because we are going to continue to surprise them.
"Chelsea will be next after Arsenal. The Blues have a tremendous squad but they just lost to Liverpool, which is a blow for their morale, so let's take advantage of it.
"[Luiz Felipe] Scolari is a top coach and I do not doubt he will be a success at Chelsea, but I feel sorry for him because we are going to beat his team."
Geovanni has not lived up to his enormous potential since moving to Europe, failing to establishing himself with European giants and Barcelona and Benfica.
He was even recently named in Barcelona's worst team of the past 20 years after a poll by a Spanish newspaper.
Yet his recent performances have revived interest in his talents and seen him linked with other clubs, but he insists he is happy in East Yorkshire.
He added: "I do not worry about rumours surrounding my future, and possible interest in my services.
"I feel good at Hull and only a massive offer could make me want to move on.
"Hull's squad is the example of how players and their coach should work hand in hand. The sky is the limit for us and we target European qualification.
"I have matured a lot and I am a different person from the one who played for Barcelona and Benfica. And The Premier League is the best in the world to me at the moment!"
Geovanni has also claimed he would have been happy to stay at Manchester City.
He added in Marca: "The truth is that I wanted to extend my stay at City, but nobody from the club contacted me.
"Then Phil Brown called me and offered me the chance to replace Jay Jay Okocha."
It is not a decision he regrets and Geovanni, who scored Hull's first top-flight goal after 104 years in the lower leagues, has found a role he likes at the club.
He was left out for games against Newcastle and Everton last month but has since operated behind the strikers.
Yet despite playing an influential part, he puts Hull's success down to teamwork rather than individual brilliance and does not see himself as the star.
He added: "From what I have experienced so far, the key has been the dressing room - the atmosphere is sensational.
"Even though we consider ourselves a very attacking team, on the pitch we are a very balanced side." |
