Actively playing the role of Saeho from 'High Kick Through the Roof,' BEAST's Lee Kikwang and TV actor Lee Kwangki's peculiar connection is the topic of conversation.
When Lee Kwangki, who made an appearance on the 27th of the broadcasted MBC 'Good Day', greeted Lee Kikwang of High Kick Through the Roof's Saeho, it was revealed that they had a search word connection. Because their last names are the same, and the front and the back of their names (Kwangki, Kikwang) have a different order, they were tied up in a connected search word when confused fans searched their names.

Trainees spend years practicing all day, with no guarantee they’ll ever debut as performers.

One frigid day late last month, a group of teenage girls began to gather in front of a building in Cheongdam-dong, southern Seoul, apparently waiting for someone, or something. After a while, a well-dressed boy wearing makeup and surrounded by bodyguards appeared at the entrance, and the girls erupted in excitement.
They’d been waiting to catch a glimpse of or maybe even chat with the up-and-coming boy band Beast. It’s a relatively common sight in the neighborhood, which is full of practice rooms and boarding houses for Korea’s pop idol groups.
“There are many girls coming every day and waiting to see the boys,” said Park Yong-bok, manager of the boy band, giving the regulars a nod as he passed.
The word “idol” first meant an inanimate object of worship, but it’s evolved to include modern celebrities. On the Korean pop music scene, “idol groups” are bands consisting of boys or girls in their teenage years or early 20s. And in recent years they’ve dominated the industry.

But stars aren’t built in a day. To become a member of one of these bands, young children go through years of grueling training - all without any guarantee of success in the end.
Last month, the Wonder Girls, the girl group whose debut became thefirst by any Korean musicians to make it onto the U.S. Billboard Hot100 Singles chart, lost a member to the stress of idol life when Sun-miannounced she was leaving to focus on her studies. The 19-year-old’sdecision came during the group’s U.S. tour, which kicked off last year.
“It was such a happy and precious experience for me to be on the tourof 50 U.S. cities and perform on the stage, but I came to wonder, can Igo on living like this?” Sun-mi said in a statement later released bythe group’s management agency JYP Entertainment.
Sun-mi’s announcement not only jolted fans, but also stirred upcontroversy about the pressure on idol performers to maintain aschedule some say is too hard for a teenager to bear.
In Korea, entertainment agencies looking to create idols - which theythen also manage - maintain well-ordered training programs. Prospectivetalents in music or acting register with an agency, then, if accepted,undergo four to five years, on average, of training before theirdebuts. During that process, the company may require the aspiring starto live in a boarding house with colleagues (or rivals), go on a strictdiet with regular weight checks and put in more than 10 hours ofpractice a day.
But the trainees don’t know how long it will take for them to maketheir debuts - if that day ever arrives - and are often allegedly givenlittle idea of the draining life they’re signing up for when they entera training program.
“Among the members of [popular idol group] Girls’ Generation, Sooyoung,Hyoyeon and Jessica were trainees at SM Entertainment for about sevenyears, since they joined us when they were 11 years old,” said KimEun-ah, a public relations official for that agency.
Park, the manager of Beast at Cube Entertainment, explained, “Whenregistering as a trainee with our company, the trainee makes anagreement with us that they will comply with a set of rules along withan acknowledgement that we cannot guarantee when they will be able tomake their debut as a full-fledged singer.
“No one knows how long it will take for one to end his or her traineeship - it actually depends on themselves.”
Park also discussed the company’s special system that, as he put it, “separates the grain from the chaff.”
“We have an evaluation session at the end of every month. With thecompany’s officials, trainees and their parents present, the traineesare expected to show off how much they have developed over a month. Ifone shines particularly brightly at the session, he or she wins anadvantage over others to make an earlier debut,” he said.
According to one member of Beast, “When we were trainees, we came tothe practice room at 10 a.m. every day and left around at 10 p.m. Itwas like going to school daily.”
The boys in Beast, which made its debut last October, are age 19 to 21,and they said they spent five to six years on average as traineesbefore that time. And not all trained at Cube Entertainment. One of themembers, Jang Hyun-seung, was initially slated to join the popular boyband Big Bang, but he withdrew from the group’s agency, YGEntertainment, after being eliminated from the reality TV show - called“Real Docu Big Bang Show” on MTV Korea - that was used to select thefinal members.

These no-holds-barred training regimens - and the hold they givemanagers over young performers’ careers - have caused numerous scandalsover the years. Last year, when actress Jang Ja-yeon committed suicideafter allegedly being forced to act as an escort for VIPs at the behestof her manager, it led to an investigation by the Fair TradeCommission, which found last July that most entertainment contracts,including those for idol groups, infringe on performer privacy andlimit their ability to change agencies.
One of the most notorious scandals is a legal battle between themembers of TVXQ, a group that played a leading role in the “Koreanwave” that hit Japan and the rest of Asia, and their management agency.In July last year, three of the band’s five members - Xiah Jun-su,Micky Yoo-chun and Hero Jae-joong - took legal action against SMEntertainment, claiming that their 13-year contract was akin to alifelong agreement and is therefore unfair. The group has since comeclose to disbanding, with the other two members siding with the agency,and the situation remains unresolved.
On the other hand, many idol group members see the merit in stickingwith the traineeship. No matter how hard the training got, Beast’sperformers said, it was okay with them because they were so eager tobecome singers. What made that period difficult was the psychologicalpressure and the teenage life that they were forced to give up, ratherthan the intensive training itself.
Beast member Yong Jun-hyung, 21, likened life as a trainee to “a painful addiction.”
“You cannot get out of it either because you are so much in love andaddicted to it, or because you know there can be no turning back onceyou’ve crossed the line,” Yong said. “The cost is too high [if you giveup halfway] because there would be so many things you’ve given up to dothis, for example, your normal school life and quality time that couldbe spent with your beloved family and friends.”
Yong concluded with a warning. “I advise anybody who plans to do thisto consider whether you are really committed, because if you’re not, itwill be very difficult to stick it out as a trainee.”
One of his comrades in Beast, the 20-year-old Lee Gi-kwang, added,“I’ve seen some friends who entered this world, being tempted by theglamour and perks that celebrities enjoy and without really knowingwhat their life would be, and ended up leaving badly hurt.
“When you see your trainee peers make their debuts ahead of you, it canalso hurt. So you need to be strong to establish yourself in thisworld.”
And that long-awaited professional debut, though it may bring pride inone’s accomplishments, more cash and, with luck, adoring fans, doesn’tmean the end of the hectic, agency-directed schedule or the fiercecompetition.
According to Cube Entertainment, the band Beast, which is still makinga name for itself, performs for television music programs about threetimes a week in addition to appearing on radio programs, doinginterviews with local media and separating for individual gigs -Gi-kwang plays a character on the popular TV sitcom “High Kick,” forexample. In between, members are expected to go to the practice roomdaily for vocal and dance training.
“There is no such thing as a daily routine for us. We get up atdaybreak when our schedule begins early in the morning, but sometimeswe start the day after the sun goes down if we had an all-nightschedule the night before,” Jun-hyung said.
“What makes us keep going despite the killer schedule is all the timeand effort we have put in to get here,” Gi-kwang said. “Consideringwhat we have been through, we cannot simply give it away.”
Sleep deprivation is another concern. The five-member boy band MBLAQcame into the spotlight even before its official debut because it wastrained by the Korean pop star Rain. Its members said in a recentinterview that the hardest part of their tight schedule is the chroniclack of sleep.
Despite all the problems, however, many idols see themselves continuing in the field even 10 years from today.
“I imagine myself still living as a singer-actor who is also engaged inbusinesses related to fashion and beauty,” said Soyeon, 24, a member ofthe six-girl group T-ara.
Eunjung, 23, another T-ara girl and a former child actor, agreed. “Ithink I will keep on with my acting career as I’m also interested inproducing as well,” she said.
As indicated by the girls’ answers, it’s not uncommon for today’s teenidols to become tomorrow’s movie and TV stars, eventually developinginto the producers who pick out the stars of the future.
The burgeoning field of musical theater is another popular choice, withseveral former idol stars making their way in the Daehangno theaterdistrict. Ock Joo-hyun from the now-disbanded girl group Fin.K.L hasappeared in “Aida,” “Cats” and “Chicago,” while Choi Sung-hee, alsoknown as Bada, from the girl band S.E.S. has performed in “Notre Damede Paris.” Most recently, Xiah Jun-su from TVXQ and Jessica from Girls’Generation landed roles in musicals: “Mozart!” and “Legally Blonde,”respectively.

Due to beast`s member Lee Kikwang participating in his High Kick acting, has led to beast`s first interview in Taiwan to be 6-1. Although the whole 6 members of beast could not perform together and causes little regrets, however the remaining 5 members of beast, has been training hard to show off their charismatic and the cute side of themselves.
Q : What’s the feeling like after coming to Taiwan for the first time? What your feelings like after seeing the fans?
Jun Hyung : After alighting from the plane at the Airport, I already saw many fans awaiting for us and welcoming us passionately, it really let us to be in shock at the same time being happy about it, at the time a little rash about it. I have been eager about this as this was the first time I’m meeting everybody here in Taiwan. After seeing the Taiwan fans, it makes us more eager to look forward to later fan-meeting, at the same time, showcasing a better Beast performance to all the Taiwan Fans.
Q : What do you think about the individual member`s charm in beast?
Jun Hyung : The 6 members of beast, actually has got our own indivisual`s charm, to the fans, after seeing the 6 of us, actually can feel the different type of BEATS. In the even of album producing and composing of the dance, we have been actively participating in it. Hopfully after seeing our performance, fans could see our hardwork and our very own uniquely beast`s charm.
Dong Woon : Although im the maknae of the group, but in terms of looks, im even more mature than the leader.
Doo Joon : I may looked as though im the manliest of the group, the impression to others is that im very MEN. However, in beast, Im actually the most sensitive in heart and the most easily to be touched and teared
Yoseob : In terms of looks, I might be very cute often leaving the impression to others that im the most mischievious however when its time to sing, im very serious and wont be losing to anyone in terms of confidence !
Jun Hyung : Im in charge of RAP in beast, although the impression of many is that im full of charismatic and swagger on stage, in actual fact, im just a gentleman
Hyun Seung : I think I got the MEN look, however the fans don’t say that im handsome, instead they said im pretty, like a girl.
Q : What type of looks is Beast`s ideal girl
Dong Woon : I like girls who tied up their hair like a princess, if she is pretty then its alright already.
Doo Joon : I like girls with a good character, however it will be even better if their character is good and they themselves are pretty. However, right now, my current ideal girlfriend is our cute B2UTY (fans)
Yo Seob : My ideal girlfriend, is someone who looked cute and no matter what she do, she will do her utmost !
Jun Hyung : I tend to like girls with a big eyes and tall, however cannot be taller than me! Also, I like girl with attitude.
Doo Joon : whatever you guys just said is just our fans look!
Hyun Seung : Girls with head shape looking good!
TRENDY : Just the head shape looking good only?
Hyun Seung : Yes! (confirm)
Doo Joon : Isnt that our fans , under the stage, everybody`s head shape all looked pretty.
Jun Hyung : (Purposely teases Hyun Seung) Head shape? Im afraid they have to bald their head in order to judge?
Hyun Seung : If the head shape is good, no matter what kind of hairstyles, it will still be good ! In conclusion its still girls with good head shape (uber confirm)
Dong Woon : I like S.H.E , and have been surfing on the net for their information , they all looked pretty (said in Chinese)
Doo Joon : Only dong woon likes S.H.E, the rest of members like our fans.
Dong Woon : It not the truth ~~ im just saying my ideal type! I also love my fans.
Q : Heard that beast stays in the hostel together, we are all curious if there is a particular members bad habit that everybody could not endure anymore?
(All the members in beast break out in laughter, Dong woon kept nodding his head and said in Chinese “There is” the first one being called out is – Hyun Seung who couldn’t wake up with the help of a alarm clock)
Jun Hyung : Recently individual members of us have different schedule, therefore we would all have an alarm clock of our own. However, Hyun Seung could not even hear the alarm that he set himself , the alarm kept ringing , which caused the rest of the members to be woke up by his alarm but only hyun seung who is still sound asleep. Unless all of us scream his name or shake him vigorously, only will he woke up.
Hyung Seung : The alarm clock sound ….. is just so far away what !!!!
(Doo Joon is still intimating Hyun Seung`s just awake look , but didn’t know he would be the 2nd member to be exposed)
Yo Seob : Doo Joon kept throwing the things around to the step that its all over the corridor and our door .
Jun Hyung : Its too exaggerating already, furthermore, every time we told our doo joon to pack up, our yoon leader would replied that he will pack up in just 3 days.
Various reporters : Is it really packed up after 3 days?
Dong Woon, Jun Hyung, YoSeob , Hyun Seung : (all said at the same time) no! after 3 days, its still the same old scene.

Jun Hyung : Although kikwang did not come this time, but kikwang just loves to play with the computer already ! Every day, he would be hogging the computer and till a very late timing, only will he sleep. However, when the rest of the members are sleeping, they are sensitive to glimpse of light and sound and thus we would wait for kikwang to sleep only will the rest of us sleep..
Q : If inside beast to choose a member as your wife, who would you choose?
(upon hearing the question, beast smiled, as though this question is undeniably embarrassing to them)
Doo Joon : Actually we all stayed together, living with each other, this type of feelings is as though the lather is already the same as a wife. Hahahaha….
Dong Woon : (nods head) we have no secrets within ourselves.
Jun Hyung : If I have to choose someone in beast to be my wife, I don’t want to marry already !

Doo Joon : Yes ! I want to go to Taiwan night market and eat some small tidbits and oyster cake. Not to forget about pearl milkshake!

Q : In the coming New Year, how will beast be spending their time?
Hyun Seung : Although it’s a new year, however to prepare for our next album , we would just be gathering with our family members for a short while to eat. The rest of the time would be dedicate to our new album`s songs and choreography of the dance!

Beast : We will be working hard !

Is BEAST filming for a new MV?
The boys of BEAST debuted back in October with a pretty successful run of promotions from Bad Girl to Mystery. But it looks like they might be coming back with yet another song…
The B2uties (BEAST’s fan club) have been digging around and it seems they’ve stumbled upon something:
As you can see in the photo they’re obviously filming for something… but what exactly for? Your guess is as good as mine but many are speculating that it’s for a new music video. I like YoSeob’s silver hair and JunHyung’s mohawk… interesting hairstyles. Anyways, whenever we get the scoop on what this really is for, we’ll make sure to let you knoW

On the last day of the Lunar New Year, I already finished writing.
But, I just closed it and left because the writing was not written well.
