Nugent Close To Loan MoveWed 27 Feb, 12:24 AM
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp expects David Nugent to complete his loan move to Ipswich this week.
The former Preston striker has struggled to settle at Fratton Parkand the clubs have agreed a financial package for him to move toPortman Road until the end of the season.
However, Nugent only returned to training this week after a groin operation and has yet to agree to the move.
Redknapp told BBC Radio Solent: "It should be tied up in the nextfew days. It's a good deal for us financially too which is important.
"(Portsmouth chief executive) Peter Storrie has been dealing withtheir chairman (David Sheepshanks), and they have made a good offer.Lots of clubs have asked about taking David, but Ipswich are the onlyones to come forward with a decent offer.
"David is interested in going, so we're just waiting for his injury to clear up, which should be in the next few days." |

FA Cup - Brilliant Barnsley topple Chelsea Eurosport - Sat, 08 Mar 22:07:00 2008
Barnsley produced another epic FA Cup giant-killing to beat Chelsea 1-0 at Oakwell and reach the semi-finals.
Kayode Odejayi's first goal since September was enough to seeoff the holders and add to a remarkable run that saw the Championshipside knock out Liverpool in the fifth round.
Earlier on Saturday, Manchester Unitedlost 1-0 at home to Portsmouth to leave the Cup with none of theso-called 'Big Four' left to take part in the Wembley semi-finals.
Odejayi headed home from close range on 66 minutes to cap off a superb individual performance and an inspirational team effort.
Chelsea were extremely poor, and produced few genuine chances, even in a tense final 10 minutes.
Avram Grant rested Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba but still selected a strong and expensively-assembled side, yet only Joe Cole seemed even remotely motivated.
TheIsraeli manager's future at the club will come under increased scrutinyafter another humiliating cup defeat - following the Carling Cup finaldefeat to Tottenham - but this was all about Barnsley.
Fewthought they could better their heroics against Liverpool, but wherethat result was reliant on a brilliant goalkeeping performance fromLuke Steele, this was thoroughly deserved and about as emphatic asgiant-killing gets.
Barnsley were simply the better side andstarted the sharper, with Jamal Campbell-Ryce cutting inside from theright and finding Brian Howard 10 yards from goal.
But the scorer of the winner at Anfield last month could not repeat the trick, as Essien deflected the ball for a corner.
Odejayi proved a constant thorn in Chelsea's side, giving Ricardo Carvalho a torrid time in the air and proving a lynchpin for the hosts' direct style.
The striker got in goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini's face, charging down an attempted clearance on 21 minutes but seeing the ball squirt agonisingly wide.
Istvan Ferenczi went even closer 10 minutes before half-time, latching onto a long ball forward and volleying against the outside of the post.
Odejayi was at it again seconds later, racing through the right channel and testing Cudicini with a low shot.
Grant's half-time team talk had little discernible effect, with the Yorkshire side continuing to dominate proceedings.
Thetelling moment came from a Martin Devaney cross from the right. Odejayiescaped Carvalho and outjumped Cudicini to nod into the empty net. ABarnsley dream; a Chelsea horror show.
Chelsea laid siege to the Barnsley box late on but never came close to breaking through, with John Terry and Shaun Wright-Phillips blazing late shots into the crowd.
Wright-Phillips, Florent Malouda, Michael Ballack and Nicolas Anelkawere among the players who shied away from the fight and allowed thepulsating atmosphere to turn them from supposed world-beaters intotimid, clueless also-rans.
The final whistle brought jubilantscenes and a mass pitch invasion - some fans jumping the gun duringinjury time. They thought it was all over, and soon it was.
Itmay not have been directly comparable to the 1966 World Cup final but,for Barnsley, life simply does not get any better than this.
Their only problem? There are no more giants left to kill. |
