LONDON: Andy Carroll memulakan jaringan di Liverpool dengan dua gol dalam kemenangan 3-0 ke atas Manchester City pagi ini dan menghidupkan harapan tipis untuk layak ke saingan Liga Juara-Juara musim depan.
Carroll, pemain Inggeris paling mahal selepas perpindahan bernilai 35 juta pound dari Newcastle Januari lalu, membuka jaringan dengan rembatan di luar kotak penalti selepas 13 minit dan menambah gol kedua selepas jaringan Dirk Kuyt. Nasib City terus malang apabila kapten Carlos Tevez mengalami kecederaan hamstring dan tidak dapat beraksi perlawanan separuh akhir menentang Manchester United Sabtu ini. Kuyt menjaringkan gol pada minit ke-34 sebelum Carroll menanduk masuk hantaran silang Raul Meireles seminit kemudian.
Liverpool berada di tangga keenam selepas mengumpul 48 mata dengan baki enam perlawanan. City kekal ditangga keempat dengan 56 mata, juga selepas 32 perlawanan. - Reuters |

Enrique, 25, has been one of Newcastle's most impressive performers over the last two seasons and he is said to be rated at around £15 million.
Thompson, who won three European Cups as a Reds player and has acted as the club's assistant manager, told TV2: "From what I've heard, yes, the deal has been done and he will come to Liverpool. It'll be interesting because he's done very well.
"He had a difficult first season coming into the Premiership a couple of years ago but he really understands the game now.
"He's one of those full-backs who is good going forward but he's also a good defender and I think that is the main thing."
Enrique signed a five-year deal when he joined Newcastle from Villarreal in 2007. |
