Assuming your cars' fuel tank fills up to 50 litres maximum, how much do you save by filling it up today, rather than tomorrow when it goes up by 20 cents/litre? According to my calculation, that's about RM10 in savings.
Is it worth the time queuing up for it? And the fact that you most probably will have to deduct some cost for petrol being stuck in the jam. What about the environment cost of having unnecessary carbon emissions spewed by the resulting traffic jam?
But to me, the most important cost would be the time cost. 1 hour to save RM10? Sorry, my time is more precious than that.
And much as I hate to pay extra for fuel, I think this is a necessary evil. I would rather have the subsidies be used for other items that can benefit us as a whole than individually.
But hey, if you think the price increase is going to dig a deep hole in your pockets, then maybe it's time to get out of our comfort zone and look for more efficient use of petrol. Like taking a short walk to the sundry shop. Or car pooling. Or turning the engine off while waiting for someone. Public transport maybe? Parking your car at the first spot you can find instead of making 5 rounds looking for the one nearest to the entrance?
What I do know is that there is nothing much I can do to stop the price from increasing. But I definitely can use less of it if need be. And frankly, I prefer to focus on things that I can do, than whine incessantly about things I have no control whatsoever.
And please, if anyone wants to link this to politics, start by giving me a guarantee which political party can ensure there will never be fuel price increases.
Otherwise just zip it or talk to the hand. Or put that 1 hour to good use and list down how you can actually use less petrol over a long term period. |
