Interview with Hankyung’s legal representatives
We've previously reported that Hankyung of Super Junior requested that his contract be voided. Daily Joongang of Korea tried to reach Hankyung but was unable to reach him as he is currently in China. Instead, they were able to speak with his legal representatives.
- We heard that two separate actions were taken.
"To put it simply, the first action seeks to relieve him from the unfair contract and the second action asks to suspend the contract until the decision is made for the first one so that Hankyung may act on his individual will for the time being."
- When did Hankyung start planning on this action?
"We cannot answer that. We can only answer within the boundaries of what is described on the file."
- His arguments are the same as that of the three members of TVXQ / DBSK?
"Very similar. Hankyung also has 13 year contract with unfair terms."
- Did Hankyung have any contacts with the three members?
"We're not sure. He will soon release an official statement so wait for that."
- Has the date for the first trial been decided yet?
"The file did not even fully go through yet. DBSK's case took about two and a half months until a partial ruling was given and we expect about the same amount of time to be taken for this case. DBSK's case had numerous negotiations for settlements and couple trials so it took longer than usual. We hope that Hankyung's case would not be so long."
- Does Hankyung want to continue as Super Junior or does he want out?
"We don't know. Nothing has been decided in terms of Super Junior."
- We heard that he is preparing for solo activities in China.
"We haven't heard anything about that."

Super Junior Member Files Lawsuit - [2009-12-21]
Now it’s a Super Junior member revolting against SM Entertainment. The group’s Chinese member Han-kyung has filed lawsuit against his management agency to release him from the exclusive contract. This is similar to the lawsuit launched by TVXQ this summer, which claimed that the contract was too long and restrictive. Han-kyung claims that the 13-year binding period stipulated in the contract is too long and damage compensation he has to pay in case of contract violation is excessive.
The latest lawsuit is a big blow to the industry giant. SM Entertainment suffered bad image during the TVXQ lawsuit when its musicians were seen to be bound by slave contracts. This time the agency announced that it will talk with the disgruntled member and work out the situation amicably.
Han-kyung was cast through SM Entertainment China in 2001 and debuted as a member of Super Junior in 2005. He was an instrumental part of Super Junior’s career in China and has earned explosive popularity as a member of Super Junior M, a sub-unit of Super Junior |

Han Geng's contract termination just a cover-up of SJ-M's latest scandal?
Yesterday,news broke out that Super Junior member Han Geng submitted a formalapplication to court, wishing to terminate his contract with managementcompany SM Entertainment. This left the public very puzzled and fansalso did not understand why he took this action. But immediately afterthis, SJ-M’s ‘happy gate’ scandal was exposed, and left everyonethinking whether this whole contract termination ordeal is just tocover up SJ-M’s scandal and divert the public’s attention.
SJ-Mis Super Junior’s 3rd sub-unit, designated to target the Chinesemarket. Under Han Geng’s lead, SJ-M have developed successfully inChina, and they even have their own exclusive fan club. Recently, SJ-Mattended various award ceremonies in China & Taiwan.
Onthe 19th of December, the 53rd Asia Pacific Film Festival was held inKaohsiung and SJ-M were invited as special guests. The whole processseemed to go very smoothly, however a 6.8 magnitude earthquake suddenlystruck Taiwan and became the fuse of the ‘happy gate’ scandal. Afterthe awards ceremony, during an interview, SJ-M member Zhou Mi laughedsaying: “When the earthquake struck just then, it was just likeplaying.” Moreover, Zhou Mi even used last year’s Si Chuan earthquakeas comparison, saying: “Last year, when we were promoting in China, wealso met an earthquake, and it was pretty happy.” And Han Geng who wasbeside him immediately rushed forward to clarify: “He (Zhou Mi) doesn’tmean happy.” However, it was too late, as everything was alreadyrecorded by the media.
After the scandal was exposed online,SJ-M have remained silent. When reporters contacted SJ-M’s performancerepresentative, he said that he is currently on vacation, and isunclear about the situation, and is also inconvenient for him todisclose anything. And SJ-M’s Korean manager has yet to answer hisphone.
But coincidentally, yesterday, all the major Chinesenews sites published the Han Geng contract termination news at almostexactly the same time. And according to one of the new site’sentertainment editor, she revealed that the news was provided by SJ-M’sside, and that they even specified the location to where the news wouldbe published to make it as eye-catching as possible.
