Fumi Mori gives birth

34-year-old NTV announcer Fumi Mori is now a mother. On Monday, she gave birth to her first child, a healthy baby boy.
Mori has been married to an NTV staff member since 2002. She went on maternity leave around the start of this month, though it has not yet been decided when she will return to work.

Oricon: who do you want to be "produced" by?

Oricon recently conducted a small poll among 500 high school girls, asking them which celebrity they would want as their "personal producer." The #1 answer was makeup artist IKKO, chosen for her skill in beauty techniques. On the other hand, #2 was comedian Shinsuke Shimada, who was apparently picked for his ability to develop people's inner qualities.
Popular actor Masaharu Fukuyama ranked 3rd, followed by the fashionable Kaela Kimura and pop star Ayumi Hamasaki. The rest of the top ten were Becky, Tsuyoshi Domoto, Yasutaka Nakata (the mastermind behind capsule and producer of Perfume), Shoko Nakagawa, and Karina.

Saori Takizawa dating Kunito Watanabe?

The latest issue of Josei Seven reports that actress Saori Takizawa (27) is in a relationship with actor Kunito Watanabe (24). In mid-October, the two were seen leaving Takizawa's apartment and eating at a nearby ramen restaurant. After their meal, they headed back to her place while holding hands.
Takizawa has been cast in numerous supporting roles in television dramas. Since "Pride" in early 2004, she has appeared in at least one drama series during each of the last 20 seasons. Watanabe, on the other hand, has been a part of Ishihara Pro since 2002, when he was runner-up in a nationwide audition. He has been in dramas such as "Kuroi Taiyou" and "Dondo Bare."
Management for both celebrities stated that the two are just good friends.

"Boys on the Run" manga being adapted to film

"Boys on the Run," a boxing manga by author Kengo Hanazawa, is reportedly getting a live-action film adaptation. Daisuke Miura is directing, while Ging Nang Boyz frontman Kazunobu Mineta stars.
The story revolves around a salaryman in a dead-end job who becomes inspired to try out boxing after meeting an old acquaintance. Release is scheduled for fall 2009.

Singer Frank Nagai passes away

Singer Frank Nagai, known for his low voice and several big hits such as "Yurakucho de Aimashou" and "Kimi Koishi," died of pneumonia on October 27, it was learned on Sunday. He was 76 years old.
The singer, whose real name was Kiyoto Nagai, released "Yurakucho de Aimashou" as his first hit in 1957. Four years later, "Kimi Koishi" earned him a Japan Record Award. He was also a regular face on NHK's Kohaku Uta Gassen between 1957 and 1982.
Nagai attempted suicide in 1985 but failed, though he had been rehabilitating ever since then. This summer, his health worsened after he caught a cold, and he unfortunately never recovered.

Singer and actor Shimizu Kentaro (56) was arrested for the fifth time last week. Tokyo Metropolitan Police said that he had been involved in a hit and run in Asakusa on the evening of October 27 when his car hit a cyclist as he was making a left turn. When he turned himself in three days later, Shimizu said a friend had advised him to do so before police figured out who they were looking for. He was arrested twice in the 1980s for marijuana possession and again in 1994 and 2004 for amphetamine use, and has served prison time. Best known for his lead role in a long-running series of yakuza flicks, Shimizu had only this year announced his return to work after his last arrest.

Female pop duo Kiroro played their last concert for the foreseeable future yesterday. The duo, pianist Kinjou Ayano (31) and vocalist Tamashiro Chiharu (31), performed at a festival in Yomitanson in their home prefecture of Okinawa. The short set included their upcoming new single "Shiawase no Tane - Winter Version," which goes on sale December 3. Kinjou is seven months pregnant with her second child and the duo will do a few TV appearances before taking an extended break.

Yasuha planning return as singer

Former singer Yasuha is ready to make a comeback. She will release a new song through a newly created label under Tsubasa Records. Digital distribution will start on the 15th of this month, followed by a CD release in December.
Yasuha's last single was released close to three years ago. According to one source, Yasuha had originally been aiming to release the CD on September 20, which was the death anniversary of her father, the late rakugo artist Sanpei Hayashiya.
The singer also recently made headlines due to a bitter feud with her ex-husband, rakugo artist Koasa Shunputei. The two initally appeared to have an amicable divorce in November 2007, but the ill will between them eventually surfaced, and last week Yasuha made some insulting remarks about Shunputei on her blog.

Toshiyuki Nishida, Kirin Kiki receive Shiju Hosho

The latest batch of recipients of the Shiju Hosho were announced on Sunday. This time, 43 people received the prestigious national honor. Among them were actor Toshiyuki Nishida, actress Kirin Kiki, kabuki actor Kanzaburo Nakamura, singer Ryoko Moriyama, golfer Isao Aoki, and many Olympic athletes.
The Shiju Hosho, also commonly referred to as the Purple Ribbon Medal, is one of the highest honors bestowed by the Japanese government.

SHAZNA announces breakup

Visual kei band SHAZNA will be disbanding next year. On Monday, the group attended a bookstore event for the release of their book "Homeless Visual Kei," and vocalist Izam notified the 100 fans there that SHAZNA had reached its end.
According to Izam, the three members could not agree on a direction for the future, so they decided last month to break up. Their final show will be on March 22 at Shibuya's O-EAST. With no upcoming CD releases planned, their book may be their last work together.
Shazna originally formed in 1993 and debuted four years later with the song "Melty Love." They went on hiatus in 2000 but reunited in 2006.
