Report: Liverpool Lose Fernando Torres For Newcastle Clash
![](http://i.media.goal.com/g/39263_news.jpg)
The latest reports indicate that 'El Nino' will be forced to sit out the Reds' crunch encounter against the Magpies... 3 May 2009 02:33:19 According to the News of the World, Liverpool will be without their superstar striker, Fernando Torres, when they host Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
The tabloid's Anfield expert, Chris Bascombe, claims that the Spaniard has suffered a recurrence of the hamstring injury that has troubled him throughout the campaign.
While the problem is only minor, it is understood that Reds boss Rafael Benitez has decided to wrap his compatriot in cotton wool ahead of the Toon's visit to Merseyside.
If proven true, this news will be a huge blow for the club, who may now have to wait another week to partner Torres and the returning Steven Gerrard in attack.
Liverpool need all three points against Newcastle if they are to keep in touch with Manchester United, who beat Middlesbrough on Saturday to skip six points ahead in the Premier League race.

Liverpool Still Hoping To Sell Xabi Alonso & Buy Gareth Barry - Report
It looks like another saga involving the futures of the Basque star and his English counterpart is on the agenda...
3 May 2009 05:34:40
The Daily Mail reports that Rafael Benitez, the Liverpool manager, will attempt to sign Gareth Barry this summer if he receives a suitable bid for Xabi Alonso.
The Spanish tactician tried the same trick at the end of last season, but Aston Villa's refusal to sell for any less than £18 million and Juventus' in ability to offer a similar amount for Alonso saw all talks collapse.
With the Reds' midfield maestro enjoying arguably the finest season of his career, most assumed Benitez had dropped his pursuit of Barry and would focus on other areas of his squad in the upcoming transfer window.
But despite the former Valencia coach saying recently that Alonso was out of bounds for the summer trading, his latest quotes seem to paint a slightly different picture.
"Alonso was not on the market last summer but Juventus came to us, so we had to talk," said Benitez.
"I think it will be the same situation this year. I don't want to sell him but when there is a window you have to talk to see what price is being considered."
In combination with Barry's recent comments about his immediate future, it would appear that the wheels are already in motion for another agonising round of 'will they, won't they' drama.
In addition to Juve, Real Madrid are thought to have expressed a keen interest in Alonso.

Agger sambung kontrak 4 tahun
