Piala Liga bakal cetus kebangkitan Liverpool
LONDON - Kenny Dalglish percaya kejayaan menjulang Piala Liga mampu menjadi detik kebangkitan Liverpool untuk mencatatkan kejayaan yang lebih besar selepas ini.
The Reds bakal kembali ke Stadium Wembley buat kali pertama dalam tempoh 16 tahun bagi membuat perhitungan dengan kelab dari Liga Kejuaraan, Cardiff City dalam perlawanan akhir Piala Liga malam esok.
Kali terakhir Liverpool memenangi trofi utama ialah enam tahun lepas apabila menewaskan West Ham dalam perlawanan akhir Piala FA 2006.
Sejak itu, The Reds berterusan kempunan beraksi di Wembley yang kali terakhir berjaya dijejaki mereka pada 1996.
"Sudah lama kami tidak beraksi di Wembley, jadi sudah tentu ia cukup bermakna buat saya.
"Sekiranya berjaya menjulang trofi Piala Liga, ia adalah satu hadiah buat kesemua mereka yang menyayangi kelab ini," kata Dalglish.
Dalglish setakat ini cukup berpuas hati dengan pencapaian Liverpool sejak menjadi pengurus tahun lepas.
"Kami telah menjadi lebih baik berbanding tahun lepas.
"Berjaya mara ke final Piala Liga, masih beraksi dalam saingan Piala FA serta hanya ketinggalan empat mata di belakang pasukan di tangga keempat musim ini, sudah tentu ia lebih baik.
"Saya percaya, kejayaan menjulang trofi Piala Liga merupakan detik penentu kejayaan pasukan kami musim ini," katanya.
Dalam pada itu, kapten Liverpool, Steven Gerrard menyifatkan aksi di Wembley menentang Cardiff malam esok merupakan impiannya sejak kecil.
"Saya sentiasa mempunyai impian menjulang trofi di sini (Wembley).
"Dan jika berjaya melakukannya bersama Liverpool, kejayaan itu pastinya lebih indah," katanya. - AFP |

A pot at the end of the rainbow?
Liverpool make their first ever visit to the new Wembley tomorrow – but was it written in the stars that the Reds would make the Carling Cup final this season?
Way back in August when the Reds began their journey to the final against Exeter City, our club photographer snapped a rainbow above the St James' Park stadium. And as you can see from the images below, the rainbow bears more than a passing resemblance to the Wembley stadium arch. |

LFC girls fly the flag in Manchester
Girls from Liverpool Ladies FC's Centre of Excellence today did the Reds proud at a special football festival organised by The FA and hosted by Manchester United.
The girls, from LFC's Centre of Excellence Under 9 and Under 11 teams, were joined by the best young female players from Everton, Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United. The festival, which featured free coaching from FA coaches and appearances by a host of FA Women Super League players including Liverpool duo Amy Fleming and Sophie Jones, was deemed a resounding success by Kevin Quigley, Director of the LFC Ladies Centre of Excellence.
"It was a fantastic day and a brilliant experience for our young girls," he said. "All of the girls enjoyed themselves, played a lot of football and got to play with and against girls of similar level from Manchester United, Blackburn, Stoke and Everton. Experiences like today are great for their development."While the younger age group players were split up into mixed-club teams for shorter, fast-paced games, the older LFC girls played for four games against their North West rivals - beating Stoke and Everton and drawing with Blackburn before losing to Manchester United.However, the Under 9s had the last laugh at the Manchester United Foundation training ground by reminding those watching - including a certain Fred the Red, who got the thumbs down from one young Liverpool player - just how many European Cups Liverpool have won!
